Apparently this phone number has rung us - My fella just said the other day he missed a call and dialled 1471 and got a 00221 number so he hung up not knowing who or where the number was from. This is rather strange isn't it?
It's what's known as a 419 Scam ... it's an advance fee scam where they try to get you to pay a couple of thousand pounds in order to receive hundreds of thousands ...

If you Google 419 Scam and have a read ...

Also, the Metropolitan Police will be pleased to receive any emails you have ...

right-click on the email, select 'properties, then details, then the 'message source' button and 'cut & paste' the 'message source' contents into a new email, together with the original email text, with a quick note explaining it's a 419 scam ... they are genuinely pleased you can help them ...

email it to ... [email protected]
p.s. the 00221 is a Senegal number
Ooh ooh ohh. Have a look at a website called www.whatsthebloodypoint.com, and it's got loads of stories on it from people who had a bit of fun with these scammers and lead them on a bit. Some of them even got the scammers to send THEM money!!

As long as you don't give out your bank details they can't do anything to you, so have fun with them and waste a bit of their time. It'll stop them contacting other people who might be a bit more gullible than you.
Another good website to look at is www.scamorama.com - it has loads of recorded conversations of the 419ers getting scammed themselves!!

I did as you suggested Sphinx_svens and forwarded it on. I did find this though -
United Kingdom - Additional Country Specific Instructions - United Kingdom
Basically, the UK has decentralized 419 reporting and does not want to hear from people unless there has been a loss or a UK bank account or phone number is given by the 419ers. The complete instructions can be seen at the London Metropolitan Police website section concerning Nigerian 419 Advance Fee Fraud: http://www.met.police.uk/fraudalert/419.htm
