i just assembled my new pc, which i bought all the pieces for, and i know theyre compatible and everything because my mate who is a pc whizz helped me pick the stuff, yet when i turn the power on, i hear the cd drivel ooking for a cd, and the hard drive searching for drivers, but nothing is displayed on the moniter. all jumpers are correct and im running my hard drive through sata2. i dont have onboard graphics so im using a 256mb graphics card....... any ideas? ps ive tried the windows cd, and still wont work.

This is going to be a process of elimination, disconnect all the drives, remove and reseat the processor, ram and graphics card, have nothing else connected.

Check that both the power supply connectors to the board are connected (if applicable).

Try the above and post a follow up if nothing changes.

it doesnt come up with anything, my moniter goes to blinking green light, meaning its on but with no input. the moniter does register that something is therethough, because if it didnt it would have a lil box telling me thats its not connected

basically i can just hear the pcrestarting itself every 5 seconds as i assume it looks for the system spec, but to no avail....

i will try the elimination method in a minute and let you know, please keep posting, really helping =)

please someone help =(
...sorry can't help but surely the guy to do that for you is "my mate who is a pc whizz"........you know, the guy who picked all the parts for you?..............sounds like a best bet to me. ;-)
When we had a customer come into our offices who started by saying "My mate (son, neighbour) is a whizz with computers..." we always knew we had a big and profitable job on our hands :-)
If you no nothing about computers then someone with very little knowledge can appear to be a whizz. And as the saying goes "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing".
lol..rojash and Kerplunk are right of course..I was being a little sarcastic there.......sorry.

My best advice would be to take it to a "real" wizz.......your local PC World or whoever is in your opinion capable of correcting your problem. Could be costly as rojash said, but......bite the bullet, it's your best chance.............;-)
You need to make sure that you have no electrical shorts, so double check your motherboard screws and fixings and ensure they are not somehow shorting conections on the board.
er... this may seem lik a stupid question but have you put an operating system on there?
OK, I'll read your post fully - you have tried windows disc....

what is your motherboard make and model?
Question Author
its ok mate ive fixed it now. and btw you dont put the windows disk in until the pc has recognised ur settings. the problem was the ram wasnt in properly, im used to ramthatwhen u push, the white clips click it into place, but on this motherboard they do that, than u have to push again to slot em back int oplace a second time.... oh well
aah ddr2 eh? I've made about 4000 pcs from scratch (used to run my own business before going to work for one of the big guns). Sometimes, despite doing the same thing you've always done, one of them will throw a wobbly that makes you scratch your head for hours
