A "mini disagreement" on the first day of your holiday????? LOL

.....cash......I would say.

CASH.
cache - to hide......from the french....so cash.
Question Author
Of course it's cash - many thanks for all agreeing with me. He's sulking now.
Clearly, given the 'e', it should be pronounced caish, but it never is as far as I've experienced. The problem with English, with it's adoption of all sorts of foreign words, is that the rules are guidlines rather than strict laws.
If there is a rule then it is that foreign words are always mispronounced. Take the myriad French ones where native English speakers (and very often the Dutch also, where as per one theory the tendency originates) say "ay" as in day. Bouquet, ballet, fiancé, les (miserables), etc., etc.

As for cache, I have never heard it pronounced except as cash, even before computer-speak - as in a cache of arms.
Cash.
cash is correct, who says caish?
Never heard anyone say caish.
Question Author
Husband says caish, so do they in Australia apparently.
I thought it was pronounced cashay!
Cash, obviously, like French which gave us the word.

I can honestly say I've never heard anyone pronounce it 'caish'...
Cash. How do you pronounce "schedule"? Sh or Sk.
How do you pronounce "Chiropodist"? Sh or K? How do you pronounce Scheme? School?
Hey ho!
cash
