When one has backed up a device e.g mobile phone onto a desktop, why can't you see the contents of your backup on your desktop without attaching the device that was backed up?
Is it because the company wants you to buy the same device in order to retrieve you backed up data?

Are you concerned that the backed up data isn't plain text ? It's more efficient to encode it. Then you need something to decode it in order to see it.

O_G....I couldn't care less whether it is plain text, Chinese mandarin or what......I just can't see anything on the desktop without hooking up the device.(phone).
!
You surely see the file if it exists ?
If not, can you see it using the file browser ?
It's the contents that's the issue, surely.
Try opening it in a hex editor.

woofy...thanks....I understand that BUT it says that the backups are stored in the default backup file.......where and what is that?
"Select Preferences from the More options menu. You will see the Preferences contains three tabs: Backup file, Backup Items and Software Update. The Backup file tab allows you to see the current backup folder location, you can change a new backup folder or location if like, you also have the option to select and delete all or individual backup files here. By default it will be a folder in your system drive. Since the Samsung backup files usually are very big, you may change it to another hard drive so as to keep more free storage space on the system drive. From the Backup items tab, you can choose what kinds of data to backup and whether to back up your SD card or not. The Software Update tab allows you to pre-download the latest software updates to your device."
