On the iPad mini, there's a potential workaround you can try. Launch Settings, tap on General, and then Accessibility. Next, tap the Large Text button and choose a font size...

Hi jomlett, the large text button was switched off, so I think that is for the main screen text, I would like a smaller text when I print from Notes ...thanks

I believe the Notes app will print in what ever font size your iPad mini is set to...You can make it smaller by making adjustment below the Large Text button for Notes, then have to again adjust for other uses. I amazed that there doesn't seem to be another option for Notes.
