Just recently bought an iPad Air. Every time I switch it on as it should be it switches off before I can log in with pass code. I know it's not right as a friend has iPad 4 with ios7 same as mine and they don't have this problem. Can anyone explain what is wrong with mine please?

Flat battery?
Question Author
Bhg can't be I don't think as it's working ok after I switch on again and seems fine. It's just the initial switch on that I have this problem.
I don't switch mine off, just charge and go each day. I use a magnetic cover which puts it on standby, but no need to switch off until it needs a reboot.

Thanks maydup I know some don't but I prefer to shut down to save battery which I read is best to do. Friend doesn't have this problem and they switch off as I do and they don't use the iPad every day.
Hi Dunnitall: you don't save battery by turning it off. It takes more power to turn it on than have it in standby. The batteries inside it are like those in a mobile phone, rather than an old laptop - i.e. it wants to be "on" all the time.

I believe you can turn off the passcode under settings > general >passcode lock > turn off passcode
Might also have Auto-lock on 1 min
Go to Settings/General/Auto-lock
I'd let it go flat completely then charge then as above

Thanks for your help everyone. I have let it run right down and then charged up again (its first charge as only had it a week). I don't have lock on it's as though it's "faltering" at start up, switches on, for about a second then screen goes black, I then have to just touch the start up button again and it comes on for me to slide to open and all is well after that. Can't figure it out really as I have the same settings on mine as my friend and they don't have this problem at all.

Ed I didn't realise that with not switching off completely as I read on Apple to conserve battery power to shut down amongst other things - well I think I did lol..now you've got me wondering oh dear lol.
I may be wrong Dunnitall! You're not going to do it any harm, it's just that the value of tablets is that they're always "on", so you don't have to faff about when you need to look something up to settle an argument :)

Just to add to this. Been in touch with apple and they say to take iPad back to where I bought it ... Seems even they can't sort it. Annoyed me too as the battery doesn't seem to stayed charged as long as I think it should. So they said to get it checked or replaced..what a nuisance but hopefully we can rectify the problem. Should I say watch this space lol!
