Butterflies

Where Mr Alba has been working for the previous few days, at break he's gone outside to admire the grounds/gardens and has been delighted to see so many different styles/colours of butterlies.

He now wants us to get lots of Buddleia to encourage them to visit our postage stamp of a garden, don't have a problem with that.

No question really, am just pleased he enjoyed seeing some wonderful butterflies.

I have one- they definitely attract them. And also bees- my neighbour's buddleia was literally vibrating with them a few months ago xx

That'll be lovely alba. I love to see butterflies, they certainly lift my spirits immediately. Fascinating creatures..

considering this came from a man who doesn't know his dandelions from a daisy, it tickled me.
Had to tell him it was buddleia :-)

Have a look at compact buddleia, Alba......great for small gardens and pots so you can have a variety......and they won't seed all over the garden.....Blue Chip is said to be good.....xx

Wish I had a compact one, mine takes over the whole small yard/garden and has to be constantly pruned back !! Saw very few butterflies this year, sadly.

I know albs, things can just take over ! I've even got a flamin' buddleia growing out of my chimney which I will have to get a roofer to get rid of lol.

Be careful about Buddleia......before you know, it will have taken over your whole garden. As Gness has suggested, choose a compact version.

I think I'll send himself to get 2 pots, 2 compact budds and we'll pop them in the back garden away from the pooches who like to have a wee in the front garden :-D

Am now in 2 minds, back garden is south facing but maybe, just maybe in pots it might just hopefully behave?

Alba....there is no such thing as a really well-behaved Buddleia !

Its one of those plants that is really almost a tree, although we seem to want them to perform like a small border shrub. It will welcome full sun, so a south-facing position should be ideal.

But be prepared to prune !

Alba....by the way, there are lots of other plants that will attract butterflies, lavender being my favourite, and not invasive at all !

Majoram/Oregano are also wonderful, and very well behaved, and you can use them yourselves as well.
