Scam or Not?

Today I received a phone call from Co-Mantra. A guy with a strong Indian accent claimed Microsoft was running slowly on my PC. Gave him my email address and card details - he remotely worked on my PC. He claimed £275 for a 5 year warranty (£55 per year). All sounded very genuine. Have I been scammed and if so what can I do about it?

where did they get your phone number from?

No idea!
Is this a joke? So someone phones YOU and tells YOU that your pc is running slow? Surely that's like a mechanic phoning you from China telling you your car brakes need changing? How the hell would they know?

Furthermore, you apparently gave them money up-front for nothing. If you have genuinely done this, then yes, it was most likely a scam. You've been scammed, and very little can be done about it unless it was a credit card. If so, call your card issuer and ask for the money back. Where's your receipt? Asking if you've been scammed after you've given your money... you're poking a black eye. You've already been punched.
you gave your credit card details to someone who cold-called you?

have you googled "co-mantra scam"?

although I've never heard of them.
Don't know if you've been scammed (seems highly likely), but if you willingly gave your card details to someone who cold-called you, there's not much you can do about it now. Keep close tabs on your card account.
Yes it's a scam. Definitely. I don't know what you can do about it. There has been a lot of publicity about it.
Personally, I'd cancel my card.
I would, too... like, right now.
Definitely a scam! This has been going onfor quite a while. Get onto your card company right away and report all the details to your local trading standards office.

It was a credit card and I could stop the card payment and cancel the card - as I say it sounded really genuine and my PC was running slow!!
I had this last year........they rang me quite a few times..........and yes it's a scam. He asked to work remotely on my PC and I just laughed at him. You'd give someone you don't know access to your PC......please say you didn't really.
Can I have your number?

Pleb..!!

OK will stop the card payment - Its an M&S card - but what about the remote assistance thing - does this mean they now have access to my computer?
You need Chuck to answer that.........
No.
1955, everyone thinks their computer is running slowly. If it really is, there'll be someone in your high street who can fix it more cheaply than Mr Anonymous on the phone.
