I need to bot to Safe Mode to be able to run an anti-virus scan.

The virus will not allow me to boot to any of the Safe Modes (i.e. with command prompt or with networking).

Someone explained I can get into Safe Mode by booting the computer from a 'recovery disc'.

Does anyone know if I could download and burn such a disc or where I might get one?
many thanks.

recovery discs have unique information for each computer, you would make a recovery disc when you first set up your computer (it asks would you like to make a recovery disk y/n? )

have you tried f11 or f8? (hold either down on start up and it should take you to a menu)
As far as I understand a recovery disc is peculiar to your personal computer - you create one yourself as one of the first jobs on a new computer. You may be able to get one from the computer manufacturer (at a cost) but NOT for Windows 11 as it's not out yet - we're only up to Windows 8.
also, unlikely but just check if you have left cd-rom in the cd drive, this can prevent the computer from booting properly
bhg481 - I believe Barquentine mistyped "XP"

I am having trouble finding a reputable download for you. You should be able to use a standard install disk - you could ask around to see if anyone has a spare and give it a go?
Download Hitman pro onto another computer
Run it and click the little blank icon at the bottom. This will make you a bootable USB stick, which you can then boot from and run a scan.
Hitman pro uses cloud scanners to scan you machine and remove trojans. You can activate it free for 30 days without buying it.
