My Norton 360 annual renewal is due in a couple of weeks and I wonder if I should consider alternatives. What do you suggest ?

Microsoft security essentials.
^^^^
I'll second ummmm
MSE is free as well.
AVG or Avast,both free.
I'd stick with Norton...............
I have used Norton for 7 years never had any problems. If you have been happy with what it does I should stick with it but if you are not happy then change. Better to be safe than sorry.
Microsoft security essentials. the best and its free!!
Microsoft Security Essentials.
I wouldn't touch AVG with a bargepole!
Excuse me butting in - is Windows firewall recomended nowadays ?
I have been using Windows Firewall for several years with no problems Bazile.
Avast gives me occasional popups but nothing I can't handle. AVG gave me far too many, along with taskbars and whatnot. MSE didnt' suit at all - it refused to recognise my backup hard drive.

But they are all free and they all do the job.
Windows firewall is fine on Vista, W7 and W8. Windows firewall on XP and before not quite adequate. If you want a freebie firewall try Zonealarm.
I'd stick with Norton, we are very happy with it.

Do you bank online? Some banks offer a full security package free eg I have Kaspersky from Barclays.

methyl //Which Operating System and version do you have? //
Vista Home Premium !

One reason for changing, is it keeps telling me there is an Error 360 and I should download a couple of apps to solve it. I did that but the pop up still keeps coming up. I don't know what the error is supposed to be as I don't have any problems .

I did have MSE for a while as a part of some windows updates but I had some problems so I removed them. However it could be, it was clashing with Norton.

No one mentioned Mc Fee is that any good ?

I did have Firewall 3 years ago but had problems . If I remember rightly
it seemed to integrate itself into everything. eg it knocked out all my passwords and email addresses.
Norton's has been very good on my laptop so I'm very happy with it, however AVG is a nightmare on the desktop and because of that and having had it once before with similar problems, I wouldn't recommend it but that's only my choice of course.

You should only use one Anti Virus program at a time, otherwise it causes all manner of problems

I did a lot of research and decided to stick with Norton. The free products just didn't protect to the same degree.
But do look round for the best price. Once you find it, unistall your current version and buy as a new customer. It costs a lot less than the renewal. Here's a link which includes the uninstall link which another aber kindly posted for me.

Well you could go with Microsoft

Personally I prefer a product that actually detects stuff!!
