My postie calls me "Mate" - it is okay but what is wrong with "Babe", "Love" etc ?

I don't find any of the terms offensive.

Why does the spokesman even use the word "complaints" in the plural ... when they've only had ONE complaint?

When I was a young lad my mum used to call loads of people "love" and it confused me a lot, but as I got older I saw it for what it was, merely a term of endearment.
I dont mind being called love, its the norm round here and used by everyone. I dont like being called honey, darling, sweetheart and most of all babe i hate that with a passion.....
In Northampton they call people 'duck'
i use love all the time chuck,honey,sugar, bab or chick when i worked at a homeless shelter was forever being told off for it, but i couldnt help it its how i spoke!
I don't mind being called by these terms of endearment but I don't like being called Madam, Mrs -------, and Dear as it makes me feel old.
Its ridiculous that people complain, I can think of far worse things to be called that would cause me to complain!
Here in Leicestershire we hear "Ey up me duck" all the time, its a sign of affection ;)
My pet hate is being referred to as "hey you GUYS" - ugh !
I can't stand being called 'hun'.
I take it as it's meant, why be offended by someone being nice to you?
I don't like being called any term of endearment by a complete stranger. I particularly dislike patients or parents of patients using any term of endearment for me when phoning me up to make an enquiry. I don't actually find it offensive though, just irritating.
I loved the term "my little swamp duck" which Jack Duckworth used to call Vera on Corrie! I'm with Ann86 - I hate "you guys" - it's SO American.
For some reason I don't mind being called love by older ladies but I hate being called things like Hun, babe, etc by people I don't know.
