Popping up where? None popping up here.
Certainly sounds like a scam but no idea how to stop it!
Is this on a Windows PC, an Android phone or something else?

If it's on a PC, running the free version of Malwarebytes should get rid of it:

It pops up when I use the crossword-solver at www.wordplays.com
Maybe a pop-up advert there ?
Are you letting the cursor hover over some ad ?

Thank you all for your advice.
I have Avast security running at all times, and I have taken Buenchico's advice and
Installed Malawarebyte.
I hope this solves the problem.
Strangely I have never received an e-mail or pop-up which says ‘Hard luck, you are the 999,999th visitor to our website’, by some amazing stroke of luck, I am always the 1,000,000th.
