okay religious people, can you explain to me why your God lets such bad things happen, please? I am bemused.
apart from what we hear/see on the news, I had a terrible childhood, I've grown up and seen such bad things happen to good people (and vice versa), and this week my daughter's 16 year old friend died in a dreadful accident.
I'm not after sympathy.. you've probably all been through something similar.
but why does your God allow such things to happen?

ganesh, I'm sorry about your mother. my father died when I was 5. bad things happen to good people.

ummmm, maybe you could get back to the "run of the mill" religion? it's sad that she seems to have robbed you of that.
sara - I will answer your first Q - Yes, I do.
Having read several threads in this topic, I prefer to not answer your second ☺

tambo, life's not always like that, unfortunately. you can't make the blind see, so to speak.
ganesh - I watched my Dad die of cancer. My Nan, who is the loveliest person I've ever met has both cancer and dementia. I cry for her pain and that such a lovely person could suffer like this..
Ummmm,

I would feel the same if that happened to me.......you tried and that is all you can do. x

Sara, you seem to be a really caring person and special mum too....dont ever doubt that you have given your daughter the best you could and the love she deserves.

She'll be fine on her tests... and she'll have to look after you for worrying....lol...as i said, stay positive, my lovely :0) x
Life is an unexplained mystery and many people have need for something to believe in. I'm not a Jehova's Witness but have spoken with them. I understand they believe that Satan dominates the world and Jehova offers salvation. Perhaps they are right.

that's okay, ttfn. I admire people who believe (even though it's not for me). you probably get comfort from it, and that's something I can't seem to find x
I don't think (though my knowledge of the Bible is not total) that God ever said life was fair, or that anyone else has either. Nor that everyone will get equal shares of life's pleasures, nor that life will be free of accident or free of disease. If happiness is promised it's not in this life - which is just as well (should Fred West have been able to argue that he was just bringing himself happiness?)

As far as I know, the point of the Adam and Eve story is that humans are promised God's blessing if they want it, but they have free will to turn away from it.
I think Christ says "wipe your feet and leave the unbelievers" summat like that. But here we're talking close family rather than friends, so you have to keep trying even if it drives them mad - lol, I can hear my kids screaming at me :)
Question Author
yogi, thanks again. we are making light of her tests and I demand that the results will be fine :o) x
Question Author
will there be no salvation for me then? when I pop my clogs, if God happens to appear he won't say "well Sara, you had all kinds of sh1t thrown at you, and you still did good things for others. you're welcome in my Kingdom"?
yes, why not? Jesus (rather than God himself) did seem particularly concerned to offer comfort to those who were worst off in this life. I'm not sure that good works are necessary but they would hardly count against you.
Question Author
thanks jno, we shall see ;o)
"why does your God allow such things to happen?"
Ah - that's him moving in a mysterious way ;-)
Bad things happen in life whether you believe in God or not. You have not been
singled out. Sometimes when we are at our lowest ebb it is in our human nature to
either blame god or our nearest and dearest.I hope with time your chilhood hurts
will heal. I hope you and your daughter find healing. Regards Cupid.xx
