goodlife - I do wish you would stop these posts. I've read a lot of them and ignored them. All you are doing is stirring up feeling against the quiet believers amongst us, who would not dream of lecturing anyone else about their beliefs, but occasionally post with a valid, religious background. Please desist.

Mock God.......is that like the Mock Turtle but less tasty?
That comment by Cox (Ratter's contrib) about being open minded to other's opinions is very true.
// God’s moral laws are eternal and unchangeable. For this reason the principle found at Galatians 6:7 applies today.//

erm well they arent are they ?

stoning adulteresses springs to mind .. let him who is without sin etc
and so with a little thought easy to see that Christ was changing the eternal law ( ergo it wasnt eternal ) - and this was called the new covenant

and for chrissakes there is a book called Deuteronomy - the second law... in short if it were unchanged, you wouldnt need one would you - you sould just say - re-read the first law - it hasnt changed since wednesday ....

throwing the money changers out of the Temple,
the good samaritan - helping instead of walking on by.....

I mean Christ was always changing things - no wonder they crucified him

// But just because someone 'famous' suddenly believes in God does not affirm God's existence - any more than a famous cleric suddenly becoming an atheist proves that he does not//.

no but ( or yes but ) a famous cleric being eaten by a lion proves that lions exist ?

In Skegness, wasn't it? Doubly ingnominus to meet a bizarre doom in such a place. ☺
How refreshing to read the post from Clanad. He actually knew Anthony Loop and has provided a lot of information about him and his beliefs. More helpful than the 'Antony Flew is a loop' comment.

And Naomi you have also addressed to me -
"The real flaw in Grasscarp's reasoning is not necessarily that there is a possibility that a creator exists but that its identity is known. "

I was linking to a website that gives some reasons, put down more succinctly then I could have done, pointing to there being a creator, and specifically for people who don't want to believe anything written in the bible....
And I said nothing about "its identity" so don't understand what point you are trying to make.

I would never mock anyone's God or their belief in their God,what business is it of mine?
Grasscarp,// I said nothing about "its identity" so don't understand what point you are trying to make. //

You said …

//It also mentions some famous former atheists who have changed their minds about existence of God.//

You didn’t say ‘a God’ – you said ‘God’ so one could be forgiven for thinking you meant a specific God. If not, which God were you talking about?

I regret that you found my comment about Antony FLEW (his name is not Loop) unhelpful, but his work is far too tedious – not to say bizarre - for me to bother to elaborate upon here. Perhaps you should read some of it yourself and make your own mind up.

Incidentally, I didn’t get the impression from Clanad’s post that he knew Antony Flew personally – rather that Clanad was quoting someone who did - David S. Oderberg.
Mamyalynne, this question isn't about mocking believers - it's about mocking God.
Are Khandro, Keyplus and Idiosyncracy Christians? From what I have read on R + S, (apart from goodlife), Theland, Maggiebee, Cupid and Grasscarp mostly respond to an athiest's posts.
I would never mock God.
Cannedgranny, Keyplus isn’t. You’d best ask the other two. I was responding to andy-hughes ‘pro-God sector’.

Back to the mocking or ridiculers.

We should remember, however, that while God has the power to punish those, and has often done so—he is by no means bloodthirsty or cruel. He is really a God of love. (1 John 4:8)

The apostle Peter said: You know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires and saying: ‘Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.’”—2 Peter 3:3, 4.

Ridiculers are in general detestable to others.
Poppycock, Goodlife.....Christians love everyone....they find nobody detestable...they understand, forgive and love ridiculers.....x
Goodlife, //Ridiculers are in general detestable to others.//

According to you everyone who isn’t a Jehovah’s Witness is pretty detestable. As you said yourself “Foolish are those professed Christians who would serve God and Christ and who would at the same time be friends of the world!” Just as well most of the people here don’t take your opinions seriously. Your unkindness could be rather hurtful to the more sensitive soul. ;o)

Mock humility”—a pretense of humility to impress others.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Goodlife. You sound so bitter and cynical. How sad.
How do you mock something that exists in someones imagination?
I had a very polite man knock at my door this morning to spread the message of God. Whether I believe his message or not, I conversed with him in a polite manner. Not because I am a good Christian, but, because I am a good human being.
