goodlife - I do wish you would stop these posts. I've read a lot of them and ignored them. All you are doing is stirring up feeling against the quiet believers amongst us, who would not dream of lecturing anyone else about their beliefs, but occasionally post with a valid, religious background. Please desist.

How did those early Christians able to endure such brutal persecution, how have past and present witnesses of Jehovah found it possible to be joyful while undergoing harassment or injury deliberately inflicted upon them with a view to stamping out their religious faith and belief (2 Thessalonians 1:3-5) Yes, Jesus Christ did say: “Happy are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, so smile. (Matt 5:10)

Where did Matthew say 'Happy' - he said 'Blessed' - two interpretations on the that word and happy is not one one of them.

The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

Matthew 5:10 in all English translations
that's for kids, not sane adults, Goodlife, irrelevant.....Christ, you don't half paste it on thick sometimes....

DTC - If you say so!
// Incidentally, I didn’t get the impression from Clanad’s post that he knew Antony Flew personally – rather that Clanad was quoting someone who did - David S. Oderberg. //

I hope Clanad can confirm he is quoting Oderberg and not that he IS Oderberg

from the two posts I conclude Flew was a loop ( or was one to fly over the cuckoo's nest ) and Oderberg was another ( USA is a big place and there is definitely room for two or more )

In all versions?
Matthew 5:10

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven..
Never did understand why J.W's use different translations of the bible in their writings why at the same time believing that their own New World Translations were the unique version.
If goodlife cannot find what he want's to say he makes it up and then pretends it's true. It's a very useful tactic when trying to deceive people.
@grasscarp (on page 1)

//This one seems quite good and easy to read and understand.//

Is that code for "it's for thick people?

oops agreed sorry something called the NIV has

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

we're not going to get into an argument about the inerrancy of various english translations are we ?

the Greek in which all this was written (!) is makarioi
( blessed )

hey does anyone remember that old cut-throat archibishop Makarios of Cyprus - he wasnt exactly a Happy-chappy ?
@goodlife

//Gal:6v7 //

Naomi got there first but again, if you speak in code, you are only ever going to be understood by those who know how to decode the code.
In other words, you can only preach to the converted, that way. Not just converted but those who have a copy to hand, so that they can look it up.

As for those people who have the entire thing committed to memory and can summon up passages at will: no wonder they can't wrap their heads around science/evolution. There just isn't any room left!

So. What to do? If this is the only form of communication you will accept, maybe we should only reply to you by quoting bible verses back at you?

Proverbs 27:2 ESV / 261 helpful votes

Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

That is aimed at preachy types who get a bit too full of themselves about their exclusive 'afterlife' club.

I got less than halfway down when I found my favourite

Proverbs 25:14
Like clouds and wind without rain is a man who boasts of a gift he does not give.

What gift are you offering me Goodlife?

I like to mock BECAUSE it doesn't exist.

I don't mock God, I mock the Pains In the Butt who insist I accept their version of God, but are not intelligent enough to do so in their own words and have to use Copy and Paste over and over again to try and cover their inadequacy!
It's you I mock Goodlife!!!!!!
I would not mock God, let those who believe in God or a God of their choosing hold their views to themselves in their own hearts. The Bible is often difficult to understand and is open to misinterpretation as is the Koran, as we well know by the state of the world we are living in today. Since this war between good and evil destruction is in the name of the One God it will be interesting to see which way the hammer falls in the end, but I doubt divine intervention will happen.

Ha ha. Read your link. I can see it applies to most on this site and I don't mean those like GL or Sandy Roe. It just proves many don't have the full understanding of the Bible.
