Since praying takes many forms, will just any prayer be effective? Some feel that as long as the person praying is sincere and “believes,” it does not matter greatly which form of prayer is used. What do you think? In view of the divergence of opinion on this matter, it is necessary to go beyond the opinions of men and look for revealed information from a higher source.

naomi - back to the c&p, I'm afraid. Get the scalpel out ready for the lobotomy.

No surprise, DT, but how can people believe that? Seriously. They only have to read the other bits to know that it must be nonsense. If the bible is to be believed God was instrumental in the slaughter of millions.
I certainly understand what the Bible is Khandro

It is a book written by ancient, ignorant, arrogant misogynists who presumed their bigotry and prejudices were guided by a supernatural being.
a bit harsh, beso - it was also created to explain the unexplainable at the time to both the intellectuli and the mass of the population. Science is unravelling it and fast, - that's what the religos don't like, the factuality of this research and the pace of the increased understanding - it freaks them that they are losing control and money streams.....
I blame Charles Darwin for that, DT.
beso; //I certainly understand what the Bible is//
I really wonder; the Bible is the best selling book of all time, has estimated annual sales of 100 million copies, and has been a major influence on literature, and cannot be disassociated from the history of Western mankind, I suggest your description says more about you than it.
Khandro, I get the impression that you haven't read it but are nevertheless impressed by the sales figures.

You see a child shoved by a sibling, usually the child’s first reaction is to shove back. Sadly, such tit-for-tat behavior is not limited to children. Many adults people act similarly.

When offended by someone, they want to get even. Granted, most adults will not give a literal shove, but many will push back in subtle ways. Perhaps they spread harmful gossip about the offender or find ways to prevent him from succeeding. Whatever method is used, the intent is the same—to repay in kind, to retaliate.

Actually what you see is an opportunity to prove love for God’s truth. And it is also a cause for rejoicing, as Jesus said: “Happy are you when people reproach you and persecute you and lyingly say every sort of wicked thing against you for my sake. Rejoice and leap for joy, since your reward is great ........................Matt. 5:11, 12.
naomi; I read it often, and once - would you believe- participated in a "Marathon Bible Reading", a non-stop, beginning to end reading, which took place in the small square in front of the hotel La Fonda, in Taos, New Mexico, - so there! :0)
Khandro, in that case I'll repeat my unanswered question. What do you understand the bible to be?
^ That's like asking me what I "understand" Beethoven's 9th Symphony to be.
// That's like asking me what I "understand" Beethoven's 9th Symphony to be. //

Answer that one too if you like. Neither question looks particularly hard.
Oh, I see. When you asked beso "do YOU understand what the bible is ?", I thought you were inferring that you understood what it is. My mistake.
Ludwig; //Neither question looks particularly hard.//
You intrigue me (and probably naomi too), OK - shoot!

You know Among the many qualities that help a true Christian is not to think more of himself than is necessary are submissiveness and humility. The submissive Christian is always learning from God’s Word and applying what he learns to his own life.

Well, you think about it. What are the most important things in your life? No; they are not. The things that a person can buy with money cannot give him life, There is something that is much more important. And this is the lesson that Jesus wanted to teach.

So Jesus told a story. It is about a man who forgot God. (Luke 12:13-21)
Goodlife, //Among the many qualities that help a true Christian is not to think more of himself than is necessary…//

The only reason you believe as you do is because you think it will save you from death. See how many times the word ‘you’ appears in that sentence?
Khandro, why don't you answer the questions?
Question Author
@Naomi No, the Cause of Death is the first reference in the Scriptures which occurs at Genesis 2:16, 17 in God’s command to the first man would result in death.

Adam understood that death was not inevitable. The point is do you ,It was the direct result of violating a divine law.

Thats the difference to some who know the Bible and some who don’t.
naomi; //why don't you answer the questions?// ('s'?)
I already have, I've said I don't 'Understand' the Bible, or a Beethoven Symphony, to which I can add, a Cezanne still-life, a Summer's day, love, a marigold, joy, .... it's a long list.
