A person's personality can sometimes be radically and permanently altered by brain injury, disease, emotional trauma, drugs and alcohol. This is an established fact. If we also accept as fact the postulate that human beings have immortal souls in the classical sense (ie. that your unique personality and your mortal memories survive the expiration of your corporeal body), which personality "survives" upon your death?

sacha, you are having us on surely?
Someone's having someone on.
jomifl; May I help you? Try to consider it as receiving a knighthood, and being able to spend your declining years in the House of Lords; £300. a day for attendance, with great bars and restaurants :-)
So I wouldn't be any better off then?
This life is a test. An exam if you like, to determine our final result.
Sacha - //This life is a test. An exam if you like, to determine our final result.//

No it isn't
Some do get to go staight to paradise without being Judged. Martyrs for example - people who die refusing to denounce their belief in one God, no matter what torcher they may be suffering.
'Our final result' is our final result, the sooner you understand that then the sooner you can enjoy what life you have before it disappears in a hole in the ground.
Sacha, why would a god who knows everything need to test you? If he knows everything he must already know the final result.
I think we have been here before, makes cup of tea and relaxes on sofa with a packet of biscuits.
Shift up, Jom. I've got my cup of tea.
Christianity once held that the martyr's crown was a sure passport to heaven. But in these liberal, wishy-washy, times such strength of faith is frowned on.
And has been throughout history.
The all knowing does know our final destination but that does not take away from our own free will. He just alredy knows what we are going to do before we make the choice for ourselfs.
And you can't say I didn't warn you :)
So I'll ask again. If he already knows the outcome why does he need to test you?
;o)
Oh goody, another warning from a religious barmpot.
Another smug, sanctimonious believer in magic and a young one too by the looks of the standard of spelling.
Filling their heads with this guff is child abuse as far as I'm concerned.
sacha, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the ony mention of free will in the bible refers to the donation of sacrifices. The concept of free will as taught by the RC church is just another of their inventions to absolve their god of responsibility for all the mistakes he appears to have made. When you are omniscient and omnipotent you just have to take it on the chin 'cos you can't blame anyone else. I must remember to add this one to my list of stuff made up by the pope:o)
He doesn't make mistakes. He's impeccable. He pressed the plunger which detonated the big bang and left us to our own devices.
We do have free will. Free to choose to sin and eventually pay the fiery forfeit or follow a righteous path and be rewarded with an eternity of harps and hymns in Heaven.
Why do human beings think they are so important that eternity in heaven awaits them ?
It's unconscionable to imagine an eternity of nothing.
