A Englishman says: I used to say that I didn’t believe in God because I thought that religion was invented to control people and to make money. Also, if there were a God, I reasoned, then there would not be so much injustice. Yet, sometimes I would sit quietly and talk to ‘something.’ I would also ask myself, ‘How did I get here?
Each person with such feelings has his own reasons for doubting whether prayers are answered. In many cases, the doubts may be fueled by unanswered questions, such as the following:

▪ Is there a Creator?
▪ Why is religion so often an influence for bad?
▪ Why does God allow suffering?

If you could know the answers to those questions, would you feel more confident about praying.

Becaus a survey of 10,000 people on four continents showed that of the respondents who describe themselves as atheists, almost 30 percent pray.

In that wishing and hoping have the same effect as praying i.e. none.
Then they are similar.
"No effect" is such a cold analysis and overlooks the benefits to the individuals praying, and to those being prayed for if they know it.

If anyone believes that Prayer will have a physical, tangible effect on some problem then they have another think coming. For those who are well aware that it is up to them to solve their own problems, though, then prayer can be a useful way of calming yourself, or focusing your thoughts. Also, knowing that someone will pray for you means, effectively, that they are thinking of you, and that they care. That's worth knowing, at times.

Robkep; Prayer can be defined as, "A reverent petition made to God, a god, or another object of worship." it exists and has always existed throughout all societies and religions. If it seems meaningless to you, then don't do it, nobody is asking you to do so.

Some may personally feel uncertain about the matter of prayer because many of their prayers seem to have gone unanswered. Why is this? It is important for you to know. In his Word, God makes clear what his will is regarding prayer.(Ps. 65:2)
John 3 verse 16.
How original this is of you, Mr Cut=and=Paste

Tell you what, I wouldn't want you listening in and blithely pontificating your bile back, not that I pray so the issue is dead in the water before you even begin.

Dunno, been waiting to meet a 38 year old brunette with her own merchant banking business who just happens to live next door to a golf course, whose father owns a brewery, enjoys holidaying in France, likes home made chilli and stir fry's and has a penchant for rugby referee's.

Or am I being a bit too greedy?

Chill, if you find her, let me know if she has a sister!

DTC @ Then you can see like Cain, who originated with the wicked one and slaughtered his brother. And for the sake of what did he slaughter him? Because his own works were wicked, but those of his brother were righteous.—1 John 3:11, 12.
There was a man who prayed for a bicycle but then realised God didn't work that way, so he went out and stole one and prayed for forgiveness.(Emo Philips)
Thank you for determining me to be righteous, goodlife - nicest thing anybody has written of me in a long time. Just as well we aren't brothers then.
goodlife,

Any clue as to when my prayers will be answered? Baldric and I are growing impatient as time marches inexorably on!!
(Plus I'm trying to imagine what 2 of naomi would look like!)
