Many persons know about God. They may live in communities where most citizens claim to believe that he exists. But does this mean that they really know God? Well, there is a difference in knowing about the ruler of the country where one lives and in having a personal acquaintance with him. So, too, with knowing God.

For Elderman.
I don't blame god or whatever incarnation of him people want to follow. My comment was about the brainwashed ministers who preached that it was god's pupose to take my kids, the self same ministers who preach at people week in week out, rolling out the fire and brimstone when it suits, yet ,live their lives as they choose, good or bad. How many catholic Priests in Ireland knew who the bombers were, how many protestant ministers knew who the bomber were on the other side. How many Imams preach and give solace to the suicide bombers. Faith and violence appear to go hand in hand and without religion there would have been so many fewer wars.

I grew up next door to a family of Jehovas Winesses, I believe you are of that faith. The father was an unpleasant man, without any good that I could see and his two kids lived oppressed, unhappy lives. I met his daughter a few years after we moved I was about 19 by then she was a year younger. She had left home had no contact with her family and was basically alone because she questioned her enforced faith, she rebelled in the most extreme ways possible just to hurt her family because of THEIR beliefs she had had a hugely restricted upbringing and she wanted to be normal.

Where does this example lead; As adults we try to point our kids in the right direction in life we try to give them as good a start as we can but we don't brainwash, we don't force them to a belief that doesn't give them the option to question it and find the answers themselves. I kept in touch with this girl and she now has a happy wee family of her own but still no faith other than in her husband and her own children.

I'll probably regret it but I'd ask you where your faith is so important that you would dismiss your own blood for questioning that faith for having the gumption to want to ask? Isn't this what makes us human beings, the ability to continually ask why?? If a faith or the leaders of that cannot deal with questioning of that faith then the whole teaching is little more than the brainwashing we've talked about for weeks in various threads.
There is extremeism in every faith, most people just get on with their lives and expect others to do the same, without questioning anyone's personal beliefs.
Absolutely AYG, I just wonder at the stregnth of some faiths and the strength of the individuals within it that you could shun your own flesh and blood.
According to the Bible, Jesus clearly stated he fully intended to divide families on their faith. JWs heed this advice and are encouraged by the church to shun family memebers who leave the faith.
A real Elder I knew, told me that the JW's caught their newbies when they were at their lowest ebb in life. Hence the aquiencence to go round touting weekly.
Elderman....what is your investment in asking this question? With respect, the reason that I ask is simply because I don't understand why, if someone is at one with their 'knowing' why they so often seek reassurance and affirmation from others!
Like many of the fringe Christian sects the JWs like to point out they they have the one true interpretation of the Bible and acclaim their superior connection to God.

Slapshot........The Bible does more than just warn against destructive habits, it also gives practical advice on how to improve the quality of family life.
God’s Word says: “Husbands ought to be loving their wives as their own bodies.” (Ephesians 5:28) Rather than taking their wives for granted, husbands are urged to dwell with them “according to knowledge, assigning them honour as to a weaker vessel, the feminine one.” (1 Peter 3:7) Regarding disputes that may arise, husbands are advised: “Keep on loving your wives and do not be bitterly angry with them.” (Colossians 3:19) Do you not agree that a husband who applies this counsel will earn the love and respect of his wife?
To wives, the Bible gives this direction: “Let wives be in subjection to their husbands as to the Lord, because a husband is head of his wife as the Christ also is head of the congregation . . . The wife should have deep respect for her husband.” (Ephesians 5:22, 23, 33) But that does not mean he has to be tyrant or dictatorial – a wife still keeps her dignity.
Regarding child training, the Bible’s advice to parents is that you communicate with your children “when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.” (Deuteronomy 6:7) Fathers in particular are instructed to provide their children with moral guidance and loving discipline. “Fathers, do not be irritating your children, but go on bringing them up in the discipline and mental-regulating of Jehovah,” says God’s Word. (Ephesians 6:4) In turn, children are told: “Be obedient to your parents,” and “honour your father and your mother.”— Ephesians 6:1, 2.
“Let wives be in subjection to their husbands as to the Lord, because a husband is head of his wife"

Blatant sexist philosophy written by men who sought to have their bigotted attitudes upheld as directives from a higher authority.

There is no rational reason why a woman should adopt an inferior position to that of a man.

Beso.....Can't you read
But that does not mean he has to be tyrant or dictatorial – a wife still keeps her dignity.
This is how wars start! I've never read so much utter utter cobblers in al my life.
Question Author
Do you want to be free to express your own views, free to decide where and how you live. You want to choose the work you do, choose your food, music, friends. You have preferences about many things, large and small. No normal person wants to be enslaved to dictatorial rulers, with little or no free choice.
However, would you not also want a world where others as well as you would benefit from true freedom? Would you not want a world where freedom would be protected so that everyone’s life could have the fullest expression? And if it was possible, would you not also want a world free from fear, crime, hunger, poverty, pollution, sickness, and war? Surely such freedoms are highly desirable.
Of course I can read. The woman is deemed subordinate and told she has her dignity. Any such arbitrary assignment is blatant sexism.
And what of the freedoms of those who choose to be in a sexual relationship without being married? Or in a relationship with someone of the same sex?

Or a woman who decides that she will not accept the decision made by her husband and choose her own path, leaving the relationship if necessary?

You claim of ulimate freedom under God's rulership is a complete fraud
Just look at it this way - Elderman is getting his message count in to justify his wellbeing in front of the big cheese JW.

Complete and utter cobblers though and actually demeaning to woman - it is not the first time that he has uttered this sexist nonsense. He and the the JWs ought to be researched and prosecuted by the Comission for Equality and Human Rights for spouting such views.
The fact that this poster calls himself elderman Says everything.
I'm getting extraordinarily tired of Elderman's arrogance.

There are plenty of people on here who have faith, but not HIS faith, or believe in their own way and to their own convictions.

Elderman, one size does NOT suit all, and your size isn't mine. This is getting very tedious, and you might have gathered by now that we're not to be brainwashed by your continual repetitive statements.
All he is doing is underwriting some of the comments made on the thread yesterday about having such "copy and paste" preaching banned. This one today is abhorrent and would be a candidate for removal.

I don't think Elderman gives a toss about making such statements, as long as he spouts forth and makes his numbers for the day. "God," sitting up there in his goldeamchair, must be cringing at reading this perverted bilge, so called in his "name."

Disgraceful, Elderman.
golden armchair btw.....

Nope a person most easily brainwashed is the “normal,” average individual. Such a one is already conditioned to accept opinions of others rather than to form strong convictions of his own. On the other hand, those hardest to brainwash are ones with unconventional ideas and strong convictions and who are not afraid of what others think.
