Many persons know about God. They may live in communities where most citizens claim to believe that he exists. But does this mean that they really know God? Well, there is a difference in knowing about the ruler of the country where one lives and in having a personal acquaintance with him. So, too, with knowing God.

However, the way that many husbands treat their wives has a bearing on whether that vow is difficult to live up to or not. Yet, marriage had a wonderful beginning. God took a rib from Adam, the first man, and made the woman. Adam exclaimed: “This is at last bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.”—Genesis 2:19-23.
Despite that fine beginning, a movement called women’s liberation—an attempt by women to break free from male domination—began in the early 1960’s. At that time, some 300 husbands abandoned their families to every 1 wife who did. By the end of the 1960’s, the ratio changed to about 100 to 1. Now, it seems, women swear, drink, smoke, and behave immorally as much as men do. So are women happier? No. In some countries, about half of the people who marry eventually divorce. Has the effort by some women to improve their marital situation made matters better or worse.

Maybe if half of marriages are ending in divorce there is a problem with the expectations of marriage.
Elderman tells us that it was much better when women were subordinate because there were less divorces. Nothing to do of course with the fact that generations of women suffered in terrible marriages because they simply had no chioce in a society that offered them nothing as an alternative. No work, no financial support, not even a roof if she left the marriage.
Obviously from Eldermans perspective we have been moving in completely the wrong direction and really should adopt the moslem model of marriage where she has no rights at all and many consider she should be punished by death for failing to obey. Meanwhile the men can just get another wife if they lose interest and keep the original one as a slave.
Oh yes, religion is such a superior way of running of the world. The Christians would be doing the same had it not been for the relentless pursuit of the moral reforms brought about by secular society since their heyday when they could execute anyone who disagreed.

I'm afraid Elderman I don't want a woman who is subjugated before me, affords me respect even when I am wrong or otherwise allows herself to be treated like a doormat. Imagine if a woman lived with her husband just out of a sense of duty becuase of something written in your book. She would waste her life trying to be a 'good wife', unhappy, unfulfilled, not to mention raped every night ( because if she doesn't want to be there because she's unhappy then clearly she's not going to want any sort of intimacy but being a good submissive wife would doubtless acquiese to it)- my that sounds like a wonderful existance for anyone, I really can't inmagine why the divorce rate has gone up, your God really does have it sorted out doesn't he. Every woman wants to be a second class citizen.

They extrapolated and convoluted stories to fit the facts as they were known back then and a pretty good job they made of that. However, some of what they wrote is now outdated (such as the role of women) or plain wrong. And of course, thinking and philosophy has evolved but then, you don't believe in Evolution though.

They do absolutely no such thing, rather,they challenge you to offer evidence of your assertions - something you fail to do. You evade the question and refuse to engage at every opportunity. Your self potrayal as a simple soul being bullied by the evil evolutionists will not wash.
2.None of you religious fundamentalists have ever offered a question about evolution that is not answerable by science. What you more often do is to offer a strawman, a false potrayal of what evolution says. The theory is open to correction, because that is what science does - offers a self- correcting mechanism - but the substantive points of Darwins theory on evolution remain unassailable over several centuries - indeed. the evidence becomes stronger.

They couldn't possibly be the CEO of a huge company and make decisions as well as their male colleages, or run a country. Its obvious.... oh wait a minute.
Any rational analysis will reveal that woman should be entitled to exactly the same opportunity as men and the Biblical assignment is nothing more than ignorance and enshrined institutionalised prejudice.
Cultures who have continued to enforce religious limitation on women have significantly poorer economic performce than those who intelligently engaged their full range of human resources.
