Do we or I believe in the Bible and what it says ????

The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. 1 John 5:19.

We know that we originate with God
Even if you don't believe in the Bible you must believe in something and as you look around the world today and see the mess we are in ? as you listen to the news from your radio or watch the TV we see the world is in such a mess because people cannot agree ?? and it is causing mental problems and we see that people are committing suicide because they don't know which way to turn ??? .. And we can see the Western world powers , disagreements between Russia and China causing civil wars between the countries which they want to dominate / almost causes Wars?? and now we see the pandemic keep reappearing with new viruses and we just get out of 1 lock down and we fall back into another, this is all apart of the prophecies with the Bible talks about?
what do you think,??????

Then I ask again - why a 'Grand Plan' when God can make anything happen.

I know you can't know, just interested in what you think.
the trouble with these threads is we get the 'foo-foo view of God for five year olds'
Thomas Aquinas discussed this around 1280 (*) - Gods view of the future and came up with Him sitting on a tuffet with the view of the past in one direction and the view of the future in the other

interesting as there is the idea of time as a length dimension ( later revisited by Einstein (*))

have fun boys and girls

(*) yeah yeah who he den, o god some things never change
Theland, I’m pretty sure we’ve spoken about this before and at that time you didn’t believe God created evil. What changed?
Locusts could be just software. Spews out random nonsensical stuff. Gets everyone arguing. Never replies. Just saying.
Naomi, really? I don't remember that.
Andy, true love can only be expressed with complete freedom, and so God relinquishes His power to grant us free will, within which we can discover and express true love, without any coercion.
Theland;//I believe God created everything.//

While there may be an element of God IN everything, God didn't necessarily create it. God didn't create the violin concertos, (that was Beethoven, et al) nor did he create Auschwitz.
God created Man in his own image, Man created Nazis, God stood by and did nothing.

You're not really helping your own argument here are you!
Khandro, if God is the ultimate creator it follows that he created the capacity to produce everything that has been produced - including Beethoven’s compositions and Auschwitz.

Theland, where a caveat is imposed, complete freedom can never exist.

None of you - including God - can have it all ways.
//God stood by and did nothing.//

God also stands by & suffers AB imbeciles, as we all unfortunately have to.

As Schiller said: "With stupidity the gods themselves struggle in vain."

or to be pedantic, what he actually said was:
"Mit der Dummheit kämpfen Götter selbst vergebens".
Khandro - getting snappy and rude confirms that you are losing your weak and constantly shifting argument.
God is not imposing a caveat.
I don't understand that reasoning.
Anyway, if I am misunderstanding God, then that is not really surprising, as a relationship with God involves constant learning.
The important point to realise, is that treating God as a curiosity, a subject to involve nothing more than a discussion, is to miss the transformative power of a personal relationship with Him.
You can pick apart the bible, and any aspect of what you think you know of God, and criticise and mock to the best of your ability, but you will never know God.
Unless you are seriously seeking Him, He will remain hidden from you, and your eyes will be dimmed to His reality.
Theland, //God is not imposing a caveat.
I don't understand that reasoning.//

Why don’t you understand it? It’s not difficult. Do as he says - otherwise it will be the worse for you. What’s not to understand?

I’ll ignore the preaching.
Theland - // Unless you are seriously seeking Him, He will remain hidden from you, and your eyes will be dimmed to His reality. //

I'm never quite sure why fervents like yourself presume to know God's thoughts and methods, and pronounce accordingly.

I have no idea what God thinks or wants, which is fine - but neither do you, and the difference between us is, you presume not only to know, but to tell others.

I think that is arrogance on a galaxy-sized scale.
Andy, If you think me arrogant, well, I apologise.
But knowing the mind of God? Yes! Its all there, revealed in the bible.
I read it, try to understand it, consider it, refer to a variety of theologians and scholars, and most importantly, pray about it, asking for understanding, and form a conclusion.
Arrogance indeed? Only what I know to be true.
I live this experience every day.
Theland - // Only what I know to be true. //

Don't bother to apologise, it adds to your endless self-flagelation, and cuts no ice with me whatsoever.

But you don't 'know it to be true' do you!!

If I write down that God is an idiot, and an appaling example of a deity, and two thousand years later, someone makes a cult out of my message, that does not mean that I was remotely qualified to write what I wrote, or that it is anything other than plucked from my imagination.

You seem to believe that the bible offers credibility, simply on the basis of its longevity, which is nonsense.

On that basis, you might as well worship a dinosaur skeleton - that's older, and just as valid in terms of the message you want to take from it.

You cannot speak for God, you cannot know his 'message' or his 'plan', you can make it up, as the biblical scholars did, but the passage of time does not confer veracity on imagination.

Unless you want it to, and clearly you do.

I would just like one fervent on here to admit that they have no actual idea what God is, or wants, or plans, or anything else, because God has never told anyone.

It's all made up, you know it, and I know it, and the next in an endless line of differences between us, is that I know it and don't care, and you know it, but still defend it as being real.

That extends to your belief that you know the word of God, and clearly you don't.

You know the word of Man - but even you must concede that it's not the same thing - or even close.
Really?
500 years ago, people read the bible with its references to Israel, a country that had not existed for 1500 years.
Daniel was told to seal up the prophecies. He hadn't a clue what he was writing about.
Only as the Day Of The Lord approaches, with the passage of time, do the, ''Valley Of Bones,'' begin to make sense, and prophecy is revealed.
Deny it all you like, facts are facts. Something your wife will never be taught in her church, more's the pity.
With accurate prophecies coning thick and fast, my claims are not arrogant, but true.
You are like a blind man angrily waving his white stick in sheer frustration at your inability to understand.
Your arrogance will prevent you from ever understanding.
Theland - // Deny it all you like, facts are facts. Something your wife will never be taught in her church, more's the pity. //

Please don;t bring my wife into this, that's a cheap shot unworthy even of you.

// You are like a blind man angrily waving his white stick in sheer frustration at your inability to understand. //

My frustation has absolutely nothing to do with my 'inability to understand' - I think I understand perfectly - as you do, so we are never going to convince each other, and should probably stiop trying.

// Your arrogance will prevent you from ever understanding. //

Then we are equal - are we not?
Andy, no, not a cheap shot at all. The churches are generally devoid of good teaching, and are more like social clubs doing no good whatsoever for their adherents.
I have told you what I know, and in spite of the mocking and criticisms, my faith remains the stronger for it.
It could indeed be part of the end time prophesies....no use worrying about it tho
Indeed it could, and no, I don't worry at all.
