I've been doing some research but have not come to any conclusions and wonder if anyone can help me.

I'm an Englishman living in England but want to become Scottish. I've always had a love for the country, and fond memories of holidays to Edinburgh with my family when my kids were growing up. I love the poetry of Robert Burns and feel an affiliation to the Saltire. I love the Scottish landscapes and the Scottish people.

My wife left me last year and I've decided it's time to start making the changes that make me happy, and to be who I want to be. I despise English culture and what this country has become - the election result was the final staw that made me decide that I want to become Scottish.

The impression I get from what I've read is that I can just start calling myself Scottish and filling in forms giving my nationality as Scottish if I wish. It's totally my choice how I wish to identify. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks for your comments Sherrardk.
Has the surgery to make you Scottish begun?
handyguy, you keep reintroducing the black man but you're not comparing like with like. I was born and lived in England until I moved to Northern Ireland. I have lived here for nearly fifty years but I am not, and never will be Irish. It's not because I don't want to be, it's just a fact.

Vulcan - A black kenyan woman marries a white english man and obtains English Nationality - is she English?
Pete,
I have a few of them. The best was about a lady that had sex on her husbands snooker table with his best friend. It required a minor op and her desperate to get the snooker ball back home before her husband returned. I've seen a few things!!
She gets English citizenship, that's not her nationality. In fact I'm sure she would find it offensive that you are saying she can't then describe herself as Kenyan.
What was offensive about king why?

Prudie - she can call herself whatever she wants as far as I'm concerned including English.

Thank you Jordyboy, that is a phrase I have never heard before but that could be because I come from Edinburgh!
There is a petition going around to get the Scottish border moved to south of Sheffield. If this comes about you could become Scottish by default. Get signing.
