I am reminded of some Australians going to Loughborough University. They had considerable trouble making themselves understood at the train station when asking for a return to Loobaroo......
I was on a course once and a girl told us that on the last course than she had been on she was late on the first day. The trainer was not pleased and asked her why she was late. She told the trainer that the 'Fekking' bus was late - the Trainer was not local and was stunned by the answer and had never heard of Ecclefechan or it's shortened form of Fechan
I like the bus from Glasgow which goes to Ecclefechan....
As an Englander married into Scotland more than once, I confess that I was brought up to call it Glarsgow....in fact I still do, even though I lived there for quite a while.
