But of course they can be trusted not to vote twice.

Very small number affected and the link explains why this may have happened. Nothing to get worked up about.
"The Conservative Party and the independent body hired to scrutinise the running of the leadership election were both unable to say how many ballot papers had been sent in error."

I know an un-named official has said it could be a thousand but what if it's a lot more?
Of course they can be trusted and if by any chance two votes were cast it would only be because of an oversight, an honest mistake caused by overwork or something.
Port! That's it, too much port on an empty stomach, thought I was seeing double guv, honest.

Not like those lefty pinko commies with their inbuilt treachery and deception.
would have thought it would be easy enough to find out if anyone had voted twice.

Depending on the width/narrowness of the victory, no doubt the loser will bleat anyway.

done and dusted - Bo Jo will steam roller whomever
he doesnt need double votes

(Like sortta Jack Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election - stop buying Dad or there will be s landslide
apocryphal of course)
//Port! That's it, too much port //

That's the reason. No gout about it...
fwubbles hair and looks cute:
cripes ! I have thought about this - considered this deeply and reflected and like the £350m lie, little untruth, er joke - I dont think it will make much difference
( quote from Bo Jo)
The nerve of you!
PP always look cute and manly with it, whether he fwubbles his hair or not.
Not so apocryphal as it sounds. The 1960 election was very tight and it all boiled down to whoever won Illinois would be the next president. Kennedy rang the mayor of Chicago to ask how many votes he could deliver, to which the mayor replied,"Just tell me how many you want and they are yours.
ready for another kicking canary? will you be returning to this thread? Ok here goes, yes it's an error, it's 1000, 180,000 have been sent, if one or other wins by less than 1000 then we look closer. Anyone voting twice will be expelled. There you go all over. Many tories are in two areas, I suspect the same of Labour, the true masters of postal vote rigging. See you on your next kamikaze post as I doub't you'll be returning to this one.
If 180,000 have been sent and there's about 160,000 members, that's 20,000 more.

Seriously though, How can they not know how many duplicates have been issued?

There must be a way of analysing the member's list for duplicate names or addresses and then checking if they are different folk. It's not as if they've not had plenty notice is it?
anyone seen a lesser spotted canary about?
I think he’s back down the coal mine.
Well what if the double election papers went to Hunt voting people?

Either way I do not think it’s good NF to make a big difference.
The Conservative Party claim to have 120,000 members. Most people estimate that is well out of date, and put the real figure at about 75,000.
Soon, the member votes for Boris and Hunt combined, will be publish.
It might be deeply embarrassing if the figure is a lot south of 100,000.
It might explain why members are getting multiple voter papers.
Perhaps only a small percentage feel it's worth supporting one over the other. Might find you have 119,000 abstentions.
I have now looked at some of the previous answers, particularly Tora claiming 180,000 voting papers have been sent out to Conservative members.
As a large number of those papers are going to non-existent fictitious members, it might not be very convincing if the next Prime Minister is elected on less than 50% of (Claimed) eligible party voters.
IF, Boris gets elected with just 50,000 votes out of 180,000, then surely that would be a complete joke, and his position would be untenable ?
not sure how many it is gromit, I heard 180000 mentioned on a news prog. Wont matter any way Boris will get 75%.
