I went to my great aunts funeral yesterday she was 84 and at the wake afterwards I was speaking to her granddaughter who had lovely dyed red hair I was telling her how much I liked it and it just slipped out without me thinking "you've got hair to die for" I realised what I had said and was mortified and I said I'm so sorry and she just burst out laughing it was okay but I don't think I've ever been so embarrassed. Anyone else had a faux pas at a funeral

There is usually laughter at a funeral - they say it is the best medicine.
I answered just after this went on - but it wouldn't post!
How about a mobile phone going off with the ringtone of 'Happy Days Are Here Again'!
well done for getting out and going to it Geordie

laughing - I laughed too loudly at a funeral and was asked to leave. I hought I was there to celebrate the old boy's life

but c'est la vie as they say
My grandfather was thanked by a relative of the deceased for attending a funeral. His reply was 'My pleasure'!
I attended the funeral of a man I detested......I was driving my car behind the funeral cars when my horn came on.....all by itself.....
Beeep....beeeep...beeep......it went....like a wedding procession....all the way to the crematorium.....

The faces of the mourners in the black car in front will never leave me....☻
my best friend's wife ( I never liked her) tried to prevent me from going to my best friend's sister's funeral

what's wrong with you - neither of us are blood relatives
didnt go down too well-

and I had known her much onger than she had ( fifty years )
Wakes should include some laughter, celebrating the life of the deceased, to balance the natural sadness IMHO. Both can provoke tears after all.

I wouldn't want to proscribe laughter at mine.
I have prescribed big poss-up
and lots of jokes

[ and anyone can turn up ]
PP - you will be on this earth forever because you are immoral! ;)
I'm sure you meant immortal and not immoral!
Nope....I'd go with immoral, Jack..... ;-)
Jackdaw - the pun was intended!
I was speaking to the widow of a friend and she told me she had put a comb in her husbands suit jacket when she went to the funeral parlour as he was particular about his hair. I then turned round and said "Yes that was a good idea he would not be seen dead without his comb" OMG We were able to laugh at this as he would have done.
That's brill bodeker, PMSL.

The cemetery we were at was next to a field full of pigs, the lowering of the coffin was about to start, when the pigs, presumably attracted by the voices, started to grunt and squeal, I glanced at my friend who was with me and she was trying to stifle the giggles, everyone was looking un,comfortable wanting to laugh, and in the end tears of suppressed laughter was running down my face,it was quite embarrassing as you can imagine
an elderly uncle who coughed raspingly throughout the funeral service turned to me and said 'i don't think it's worth me going home'

The other day my aunty was telling me about when she went to stay with my gran in Devon and my gran went to put some flowers on my grandfather`s grave for the first time after he died. She grabbed a vase from the back of a cupboard and took it along with some flowers to the grave. When they got to the grave, my gran realised there was a proverb on the back of the vase. It said "Never say die, up man and try". Needless to say, she had to take the vase home again.
