Will someone please enlighten me. This is not a term I have ever heard before. I am presuming that it is perhaps a term used in a university. If it is, it shows I never went to one.

This is strictly an American term. I thought we were supposed to be doing a British crossword. Buck up, Kate!
Not necessarily and Americanism. The OED gives: study-hall [= F. salle d'�tude], in Roman Catholic colleges, a large room in which the pupils prepare their lessons


having just completed Mondays, I'm at a loss with Dead Cat Bounce - where is this term in use [USA by any chance ??]

Thanks everyone. I may not have gone to uni but I did go to school "oldwoman" but always knew it as a classroom.
