Listening to Sunday Worship on Radio 4 this morning a mention was made of her. The law of Moses stated she should be stoned to death for her transgression. What punishment would have been handed down to her partner in 'sin'?

He may have been passed to the priests and elders for training in how not to get caught with his pants down.

Or make a bolt for the door.
I'll ask the vicar.
under the Mosaic law expounded in Deuteronomy 22, he would have died too.

"If a man is found lying with the wife of another man, both of them shall die, the man who lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall purge the evil from Israel."
the following verses deal with virgins and with rape

[23] "If there is a betrothed virgin, and a man meets her in the city and lies with her,
[24] then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones, the young woman because she did not cry for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbor's wife; so you shall purge the evil from the midst of you.
[25] "But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die.
[26] But to the young woman you shall do nothing; in the young woman there is no offense punishable by death, for this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor;
[27] because he came upon her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her.
What if she'd cried for help in the city...but her cries were ignored? Or no one heard her?
Also, what happened to young women not betrothed?
It’s comforting to know both the man and the woman are stoned to death .

Yes, indeed. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
Moses was nothing if not fair.
The reason for stoning as a death sentence is, (I nearly said 'was', it still goes on) is because, like burning at the stake, no single person has blood on their hands.
Wouldnt want to be in Johnson or Hancock's shoes then!

Or the Finnish PM.
I didn’t know that khandro. Thanks .
What if she didn't tell him she was married?

And note that in an adulterous relationship, only the married party is guilty of adultery. The single one is not.

Sorry, but talking of stoning to death (or indeed any punishment for that matter) of either party, is ridiculous.
A woman getting stoned to death for adultery is bad enough but imagine getting raped and having to live with your rapist for the rest of your natural life...

//If a man encounters a young woman, a virgin who is not engaged, takes hold of her and rapes her, and they are discovered, the man who raped her is to give the young woman’s father fifty silver shekels, and she will become his wife because he violated her. He cannot divorce her as long as he lives. Deuteronomy 22:28-29//

The Bible is one sick and twisted book!!
Females are possessions, nailit... we still have those traditions here.
And people, usually men (mostly men thinking about it) attack me on here for showing the Bible for what it really is....
What woman would want to become the wife of her rapist???
Khandro, this ones for you!
I am reminded of the stoning scene in Life of Brian.
"And people, usually men (mostly men thinking about it) attack me on here for showing the Bible for what it really is...."

Not at all, it's the repetitiveness that draws your fans.
