Don't know - but another ridiculous penalty decision. The defender has his back to the ball, the defender heads it against the defender's arm and the ref gives a pen on the grounds that he had his arm in the air. And what was worse, the so-called BBC pundits agreed. I give up.

The BBC pundits are a huge joke IMHO. Ironic that both significant events so far have occurred with the perpetrator's back to the approaching ball (see my earlier post - https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Sport/Football/Question1613108.html )

Much as I am cheering for Spain I think it was a pen. Although he’s got his back to the ball he had ONE arm up and thst is dodgy even if not necessarily deliberate

Dear Spain

Please stop the pretty pretty fannying about and get the ball up the pointy end - you will lose otherwise, as the ref seems well dodgy - not the penalty which was fair enough, but the weight of other decisions against Spain - sooner or later he’ll gift the Russkies a goal.

You can’t unfairly increase the area of your ‘block’ by having one or more arms above your head - you know the ball is on the way & it’s your responsibility to keep your arms out of its way.

The defender’s hand is in an unnatural position and therefore if he doesn’t deliberately fend it away it can still be a foul
