It was a privilege to know them.

thanks for the answers - I was only referring to this friend that died last year was the only friend I have at the moment to have known my mother (hope that ok)
JJ can you tell us what is in the full text?
A paragon, steadfast, loyal.
I took the question to mean that Jen was looking for one word. Perhaps to fit and obituary with a limited letter count.

I just wanted to mention that this friend was the "old" glue that kept my mum's memories and friend and myself together. something like that
You're writing this yourself as you answer us,

She was the emotional glue you needed.
She was a "gem"?
She was a rock.

ok guys and with the help of thesaurus - I am sure I will come up with something. The obit has been written and I have until April to "doctor" it up.

Thanks again. Words are difficult.
What have you written so far, JJ?
Integral
Stalwart
Stalwart. Loyal steadfast
She was a diamond.
emotional glue for otherwise forgotten memories

I dont see that gem, ruby, diamond geezer is better.

I think it is impt you remember and honour them - a lot of the readers (of the obit) like the usual suspects on AB will shrug their much-shrugged shoulders and wonder - - so what?

I was excluded from an RAF pilots funeral because the rels didnt really get it that he was a pilot.....I still honoured his memory - see final scene of Woodlanders
