i still get surprised when someone mentions "2o years ago" and they don't mean the 1980s!
I admit to sometimes thinking about the 1800's when someone mentions 100 years old!
werent they 6/- for 20 in 1966 ?
From £9.50?
I don't smoke, but I thought they were £7-8 a pack still.
What are the most expensive brands?
Well I paid £9.50 today, there are of course more expensive brands.
Pack of five woodbine’s no filter 3 half pennys . Also known as cancer sticks
Hopefully, it might encourage some people to stop smoking and live a healthier life.
dustypuss I remember buying 5 Woodys back in the day.
I gave up smoking completely in 1979, I think ciggies were just going over £1.00 for 20 then.
I think you could get 3 Domino. Some shops would open a pack & sell them singly.
Oh I wish I smoked.

I could give up, and save an absolute fortune.
means 88p will be added to the priciest packs of fags, increasing their cost from £12.73 to just over £13.60
I gave up smoking 20yrs ago Hopkirk and im still skint.
When I first worked behind a bar, in 1971, 20 Embassy No 1 cost 26p. So, if I'd have wanted to, I could have bought roughly 70 packets from my £18 a week wage.

A barman on the new minimum wage, working the same hours as I did, would now be able to buy about 35 packets of ciggies from his (gross) weekly wage. So, in terms of actual 'affordability', they've doubled in price over the past 50 years. (Until I did the sums though, I have to admit that I thought the increase would have worked out far greater).
I remember swearing to give them up if they went over £1 a packet. Didn't have to as I didn't smoke, but it made me feel good inside.
I remember when Silk Cut cost 26 1/2p for 20!
