Thank you, TWR.......... you're a gem.
Whatever would we do without you, Jiminy.....?
tell me more what to expect ?
I always do put the phone down, if I haven't entered a competition then I can't have won.
which competition?
Quite right marval, you can't win if you haven't entered. If you know that you haven't entered just put the phone down. easiest way. X
and what if you have entered a legitimate competition, run by an organisation you know, and included your phone number and everything?
Could do with some more info! Do they sound foreign?
It will be a scam unless it's a competition you knowingly entered- but why will it cost you money?
If they ask for money to release the funds or ask you to phone apremium rate number it will cost money.
But those emails warning people that it will cost you something like £35 to receive the call, or if you press 5, are a hoax
I enter about 100 plus competitions every week, so i have to listen to my calls politely, just in case. But if you dont generally enter comps, and someone rings to say you have won, then its obviously a scam. X

Sorry for the delay, from what I understand, when the call is answered they ask you to hold, & Hold & hold, your bills go up in the region of a £100, can not give you more info, ask Knowalot in the sea side resort, she will give you the Rock, Bloody hell, I mean Info.
I'll ask my friend in Nigeria if he knows anything about this.
pay to receive a call ?..
Why does your bill go up when THEY have 'phoned YOU, do they reverse the charges or something?
surely you can't be billed for an incoming call?

If there wasn't an issue here by saying what I have posted, I would not have posted it in the first place.
Yes, but I, and others are trying to work out how/why we can be billed for answering an incoming 'phone call, as you instigated the thread we were hoping you could enlighten us.
I suppose it could be that the scammers send a text or voice mail saying you have won and gives a premium rate number for you to call to claim it. That's an old scam.

It is impossible for anyone to be billed for an incoming call (unless they accept reverse charges).

My daughter was on about this on Sun Balric, from what they are saying, you answer the call informing you that you have won, ask you to hang on whilst they get your details up, thats when the cost to you go up??? I will try & find this out today. Have a good new years eve & don't get drunk.
