OH has hurt his foot. He said it's been a bit sore for a few months now. The last few days it's got really bad and he's in a lot of pain. Don't know what the cause is.

Should he go to his GP or straight to the minor injuries clinic at hospital? I presume his GP (bit of a trek) would send him for an xray...Hospital is just a few mins away.

Also.........any tips on shutting up his moaning........<<<<<<that's actually more important. I might have to kill him.!!!!

Yeah - cut out the middle bit and just kill him. Or at least hit him over the head with a big cosh for a while, that'll take his mind off his foot.
I would go to the MIU, as you say he is likely to need an X-ray or scan just to rule out breakage etc. NHS is keen that patients use the most appropriate route for care, this makes sense. (Don't kill him, your life gets complicated if you do that.)

Ok I won't kill him...............he said he'd buy me things today.

I'll kill him tomorrow.
Just take his foot to the MIU, I am sure he won't mind if you unscrew it if it's causing him that much pain. Typical bloke not to get it seen to when it first started to hurt!
Sounds more like an acute injury over a more minor one, if it is the side of his foot it could be an inflamed tendon has developed a tear....minor injuries might be the best bet as it will probably need an ultrasound scan as well as x ray,,,,,,,, letting him know you are taking him seriously will help with the moaning,,,,if not hopefully the hospital will give him strong enough painkillers to send him to sleep
lol theres nothing worse than a man being 'ill' is there? probably best to go to minor injuries as he would more than likely need a xray

He never moans so I'm presuming it's really bad. He got up at 5.30 to phone his Dad saying he's not going into work.......he hasn't phoned in sick for years.

His ankle looks a bit swollen but that's not where the pain is.

He is making me laugh though. I came down this morning and he was sitting here in a pink dressing gown and a cowboy hat..........lol
What an image! Post a picture on here >>>>>>>>>>>>

He's gone back to bed..............I should have done. I'll catch him later.
Hi Ummmm, I injured my foot and went to A&E. They didn't even suggest an X-Ray, but diagnosed a severe sprain. I was on crutches for 6 months, and finally paid to see a sports injury specialist. He diagnosed 'plantar faciitis', a condition usually caused by excessive exercise (walking in this case), and cured it in two visits. If your man has been suffering for a couple of months, he ought to go to the hospital, and if that doesn't work it might be worth him seeing someone who deals with sports injuries.

I'll tell him that Naomi. He has a physical job so it could be something like that.

Now all I have to do is convince him that vodka is not the best pain killer.
.... but it helps. ;o)

But not before the kids go to school...it just doesn't look good :-)
Been going on for MONTHS?
Can't be that serious.
Not an accident, not an emergency.....so why A@E?
GP first.
Question Author
I didn't say A&E Sqad. I said minor injuries clinic.
Yes it's been sore for a few months but now he can't walk on it. He needs his foot for work.
Sounds like he'll end up in the same place regardless of whom he consults first. Best go direct to the hospital, matey. x
Personally I would go to the GP first, it also may save you hours waiting at the hospital.

That's what I was thinking...........

Pain hasn't effected his libido....!!!

Last time I was at the minor injuries clinic I was out in 10 mins.

I don't think people know it's there. I didn't until I bumped into a nurse at the corner who spotted my injury and told me to go. There was 3 people there.
ummmm...the A@E bit was answering other posters.

Minor injury clinic? what is that? Bloody stupid.......minor injuries are usually accidents aren't they?

Can't GP's deal with "minor injuries?" Plus not all minor injuries need X-Rays.
No wonder A@E is overun, when the first line of call in most cases is your GP.
