My girlfriend is a Medical Doctor who says the term slab is used when post mortems are carried out, a routine operation would be carried out on an operating table in an operating theatre. Hope this helps

according to my dictionary is just operating table

If you work in an operating theatre (as I did for many years), you just call it "the table".
