I always enjoyed his performances, especially when he played Mr Bennet, opposite Alison Steadman.

RIP Ben !

His performance in the BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice was understated genius.

RIP.
Yes, a FINE actor indeed RIP.
an amzing actor
RIP Ben
RIP Ben.
My favourite Mr Bennett by a long chalk, so much better than Donald Sutherland in the film.
The really awful thing is all week in my office we’ve been talking about him. I said on Wednesday he died at that stage he hadn’t then
Just seen that his son plays Josh Archer, his mother is Celia Imrie with whom Benjamin Whitrow had an affair.
Never mind the arty-farty stuff. He played Detective Chief Superintendent Braithwaite (Jack Regan's governor's governor) in The Sweeney. He also sired a child, Angus, with Celia Imrie in 1994. He was married (to somebody else) from 1972 until his death.
so many parts he played NJ
did he ever play a dead man or - - - stiff ?

perhaps he was so versatile that he didnt need to
so Celia might say his best performances were - in bed!
So many questions, so little time.

Out of respect for the camel I won't ask "Benjamin Whitrow - who he?"

who he
or even - who dat den ?

He is the one in the background reading the paper in the alison steadman compilation above
The character Mr Bennet is also played by Donald Sutherland in the Kiera Knightly film - and as above viewers didnt find that as satisfying
I have to say I thought Sutherland was superb - the role's a tricky one because he's a terrible father. leaving all the work to his wife; I didn't think the BBC version got that quite right, though I didn't think it was Whitrow's fault.
I loved Sutherland in "Death in Venice". (Have I got the name right?)

It would be invidious to compare the talents and the beauty of Ms Christie and Ms Knightley of course.

that was Don't Look Now. Death in Venice was Dirk Bogarde and Thomas Mann.
