Poor Boris, getting a red light between a greening and an amber! :)
Judging from the headline Tom Utley sounds a bit of a twit. Maybe he has nothing he needs to give room to ?
....only a very strange person would regard this behaviour as a "freedom".
I'm not reading the whole article but no, sit how you want.
He has a point about men on the tube who sit like that - they do tend to give the impression that they are entitled to take up loads of space and you are not welcome to sit next to them. Then when you do, you have to rub legs with them. Or the guys who sit opposite and want to give you a good view of their crotch - not the best view on the tube to be honest.
Boris always has aired his views openly..

No good asking him to 'keep it zipped'!

Reminds me of Terry Wogan and his moleskin trousers on Points of View a few years ago. Outcry on the Beeb.
I hate to see females with their legs crossed in a ridiculously exaggerated fashion when being interviewed.

It's just another Mail puff piece, to be ignored.

As far as the image goes, it does Boris no favours in terms of his gravitas as a minister - he looks about twelve!
Andy > looks about twelve!

Well only a very strange person indeed would wish to make that particular behavioural freedom, suppressed.
You can sit how you like in the comfort of your own home, AOG, but don't invade my space by pretending your tackle is too big to sit with your legs together. It doesn't intimidate me, it pees me off.
Nonsense.
Gotta keep the air flow,
Otherwise the juice don' grow...

I'll stick to more serious issues , like - Marmite Spreading.

Now that's an art.
It really annoys me when men sit like that in cinemas, theatres, trains, whatever, taking up their neighbours' leg space. They're trying to assert their dominance. Same as taking up the armrest. It's so selfish. I try to nudge them with my arms and legs if I'm feeling bold, but they don't budge.
When I was a young boy it was drummed into me that it was very rude to sit with your legs apart.
It is rude, Jackdaw and selfish to invade another person's space in a crowded environment.
