We've just had our bathroom re-fitted and the fitter put us off anything suction-cup for accessories, even the likes of soap dishes. He claims they all fall off at one time or another, the last thing you want a grab handle to do is come off when you are using it.Better having one screwed to the wall.

I agree with bhg - vacuum-held is very hit-and-miss so for life-saving grab handles I recommend a good screw fitting.

Help the aged or whatever they are called arranged for someone to come round and sort out my mother in law for a very reasonable price

That would be...

https://www.ageuk.org.uk/

if only theyd go round and sort your MIL red!

🤣 RH - I'm sorry, but that made me laugh & reminded me of Les Dawson -

I saw six men kicking and punching the mother-in-law. My neighbour said 'Are you going to help?' I said 'No, six should be enough.'

Apologies, jj - I agree with others, screw-fitted handles are the safest option.

Call adult social service.  They will come round assess your needs and supply and fit suitable ones for free. I agree suction fittings are not safe.

My council only provide that sort of thing free of charge if you in receipt of certain benefits and have limited savings.

I wouldn't want them trawling through my finances for such a relatively cheap job

barry MIL felt the same so that why Help the Aged was useful.

Thanks all for the comments - made me laugh x

She needed some rails put outside her house to help her up a step - we wanted her to get the social services to do it as they will assess her and get her what she needs but she started the application and as soon as she discovered she had to show her finances she stopped  - got a private handyman in and they are not what she needs and are quite frankly unsafe!

You haven't told her they're unsafe have you;-))

LB that made me choke - no, the priest came and visited and fellover them!

Ooo two pluses!

I answered right away to zacs but then computer fella came in middle of the post. I do indeed have suction ones but every now and again they slip so every now and again I take them off and wash them.  I think I will feel safer with screw ones.  Ta for your replies

Ps. Computer fella couldnt get my outlook fixed so needed to take hard drive back to shop. They had it in the shop from yesterday.  Microsoft issues and questions were unbelievable so it ended  saying   recovery issues need to wait 24 hours

I had mine done for free jj  - all part of assessment of my home after knee replacement.

If you have mobility difficulties I think your local Social Services will help.

^^^  Yes - probably arrange for an Occupational Therapist to visit you and assess your needs.

Tóo much faff and waiting.  Just contacted my plumber. He can do the job. He is coming on Monday to show me photos of the handles cos I don't want monstrosity size. Then he will get what I want and job will be done quickly

Not that you choked but that the Priest fell over them.

Sorry that was for RH.
