Sunak Goes Missing

It's emerged tonight on Newsnight that the reason Sunak left the D-Day commemorations early - leaving Lord Cameron to be photographed in the leaders' line up and Keir Starmer to meet Zelensky -  was to come back to do an ITV interview to try to prove he's not a liar.

I think that's unforgivably disrespectful.  Why did nobody on his team tell him how bad it would look?

Coz they are all as stupid and disrespectful as him ?

Tories don't seem too pleased:

Tim Montgomerie, the founder of the grassroots Conservative Home website, told BBC Newsnight: “I want to put my head in my hands. If he came back for a political interview from the D-day commemorations that is indefensible.

“This is going to be the last big commemoration where survivors will be present,” he added. “I think it’s political malpractice of the highest order if Mr Sunak absented himself for an election interview on ITV.”

Lest we forget. Oh dear, it looks like he forgot.

It is pretty baffling though. Addressing that whole issue about lying could have waited a day, and now he's created another gaffe he's got to deal with.

Sums up the TINO's doesnt it.

And they wonder why Reform is getting traction over them.

Could well be the end of the Conservatives, the wef liberals have killed it off.

Radio reports say that he has apologised.  As well he might.

Hollow appology.

The back stabber is finished, he might as well pack up and head to California or maybe to India to work for hsi FiL.

Snubbing those who gave their lives to save Europe to save his own political career? what an odious man he is.

Absolutely shameful.  He didn't put a lot of thought into that decision, that's for sure.

-- answer removed --

Would he not have a team of advisors to steer him away from the most egregious errors?

didn't Indian troops fight in WW2?

Khandro, what on earth does that have to do with it?

Maybe he has advisers but advice is not always helpful & not always followed.

He should have had the sense to ignore such advice.  A leader who can't spare one day in memory of people who gave their lives for their country isn't much of a leader.  I think this demonstrates without doubt that he is nothing but self-serving.

He comes across (to me) as being a bit naive.

Winchester and Hindu - I think he made a calculation. My own view is, ( NT) Let the dead bury the dead.

News generated by the election - nothing to see, move on

didn't Indian troops fight in WW2?

yes they did. The photo of me da' in an early POW camp ( 1940, Dunkirk) shows a sikh in the back row.

WWI - yes - The double VC Chavasse MB had a little helper, also Indian who was not as  honoured as much. - he got the one below ( ? DSO)

someone asked

Sunak as well as not being a good leader is also very bad at politics. This is basic stuff. Everyone knows not to shirk out of a veterans rally comemorating D-Day.

KHANDRO, since when has Southampton been in India?

Indians don't virtue-signal like most Westerners.           Indians don't pray for example to show how pious they are to others.

He went, paid his respects and left. What are all those other politicians there for really? - Gesture politics ?

(Good heavens ! I seem to be defending Rishi Sunak! )
