How often do you actually wash your duvet? Not the cover, the whole thing. I am a tidy, clean old man but can truthfully say I do not believe my duvet has ever been washed.
Urggh, yep you are (only kidding).
I wash the thin lightweight ones once a year because they fit in the washing machine but the thick ones have never been cleaned or washed.
Mine are double, one 5tog and one 10. I wash them Spring and Autumn. They fit in my machine. The grandkids have single ones that are washed when they come off the beds each June. Sheet and light blanket used in the Summer
I only use the lightest weight...4.5 TOG. I try to wash them several times a year...they dry in no time.
I threw out the very heavy ones. They don't fit in my machine and I don't like that kind of weight on me. Never mind trying to change the cover on them!
Pasta, we have a 1.5 and a 2.5 tog which are the ones we mainly use, with a fleece blanket thrown over if it’s a particularly cold night.
I replaced all the thick duvets about 3 years ago. We never use them ourselves but have family members and friends who stay who are cold creatures.
I bought a wool one that was advised by Gness here - I think it is 10tog and I love it. If it is too warm throw it aff for goodness sake and when it is chilly in the night - tuck yourself up again.
Our summer one goes in the washer around the end of September and the heavier Winter one goes to our local dry cleaners about April time .
How often do you hoover your mattresses?
I have 4 duvets, 1 for each season, so when I change them over, I wash the one I'm taking off, but I must admit I don't hoover my mattress although I know you should.
Glad you like it, JJ. I love that they are all natural but my one disappointment was that the gorgeous smell of wet sheep when it's unpacked vanishes after a few days....others disagree with me... :-)
When my daughter was young and lived at home, I hoovered her mattress regularly as she had allergies, but I never think to do my bed. I do have pillow and mattress protectors which I change when I change my bedding, but I don't know if they stop those pesky mites from getting to me.
