Following on from a previous thread about washing pillows vs buying new, what are your thoughts on duvets? Do you have them cleaned (how often) or do you buy new at regular intervals?

I remember a good forty years ago when duvets were still called 'continental quits' and virtually unheard of in this country.

A friend of mine who had lived in Germany for a while swore by them, and bought two single ones over for him and his wife in their double bed. The Europeans always used them this way, double ones were only invented when other nations fought shy of the singles, and wanted a double size.

So in theory, two singles should work out fine - although like everyone else, we have always used doubles.
Still undecided, but will let you know if we do decide on separate ones, deciding on whether to have a king size bed, in which case singles would be easier to change covers on
Ric.ror do you have no duvet from spring to autumn?
I have a king sized duvet on my bed and i throw it out and buy a new one about every two years.
My duvet was quite expensive. I don't sleep with it though. Even in the middle of winter I sleep without it. I wake up cold :-)
No grass
I usually manage with a throw or even just my dressing gown over the top
I don't like to be too hot in the bedroom
