Just a thought does the amount of replies to wishing someone a happy birthday determin thier popularity on here as some get a lot more than others,

I never wish anyone a birthday greeting, they are strangers to me .

No
I wouldn't think so.
Maybe ? .
No, it determines who replies to such threads, nothing more than that.

A reply from someone who doesn;t know the birthday person from Adam is as valid as someone who has known them for years, as is the absence of someone who has known them for years, but simply missed the thread.

Wooden spoon anyone ?
I say happy birthday to those people I interact with but I don't say happy birthday to people I've taken a dislike to.

Yes. On a related subject, I didn't get 1 Christmas card this year.
There are some on here who do not like a birthday post, as I am sure you know Jordy, lol.
If I see a birthday thread I add my greetings to it. It doesn't matter who they are.
No one is going to say yes but of course it does Jordy
It’s true prudie.
I've never felt the need to inform ABers of my birth date....nor do I wish to know theirs.
Of course it does.....the more happy birthdays......the more "gobby" the recipient.
Some ABers ( no names no pack drill) say happy birthday to everyone.......saying happy birthday to the opening of an envelope.
Happy birthday, RIP, etc are almost meaningless on AB
Is 'gobby' the same as popular?
Yes......most of the time.......;-)
If there is no meaning behind your wish then you are right not to add one - that I agree with.

My preference in life is to create a smile and not a frown or a grimace.

I have avoided a very few Birthday threads with good cause and I'm sure the person celebrating their day was glad I did so.
No, "gobby" equates to verbose, overly-opinionated and (usually) boring as Hell.
Mamy

" I'm sure the person celebrating their day was glad I did so."

LOL....I'm sure they were also.
Agree with Marval. It doesn't hurt to wish someone happy birthday.
