Following on from the birthday thread thread, how do you celebrate your birthday?
We haven't bothered with cards or presents for a number of years now, rarely if ever go out especially for a meal or anything, anything we want to do or buy we do or buy throughout the year. We just give each other a kiss and say happy birthday on the day. Suits us.
I have a friend who has bucks fizz, cake, and 'surprise' visits and loads of presents from her three grown up children, on her birthday morning, she gets very annoyed if someone's a bit late or happens to be away on the day. She was horrified to learn that we'll be doing a four hour drive on my birthday, asking why we didn't go the following day so I could celebrate my not special birthday. She's 56 and I find her attitude a bit juvenile, she probably finds my attitude a bit odd too.
Are you a non birthday person or a big celebration person?

I like to have cards from close people for my birthday, since I don't often see some of them, but nibble's not a birthday person - we agreed ages ago that for birthdays and Christmas, we'd just do cards, rather than buying gifts neither of us want or need - so we do something else with what we'd have spent (we're going to Brighton before Christmas, this year), and birthdays themselves are pretty low key in our house. We might have some friends round for a meal or a takeaway, but we'd probably do that anyway - it's not a big bells and ribbons event. On my last big birthday, my sister was here and the three of us went over to Calais for lunch - which was different, but it didn't come with balloons :-)
I never knew my father's birthday and my mother is such a miserable trout that birthdays were not celebrated....except for my brother's....

MrG and I always made them fun and a bit special but the best was when I was in my forties and the daughter found out I had never had a birthday cake.....she and her friend made my favourite cake with candles and took me out for my favourite meal...a picnic.
She never forgets my birthday though the son does...despite reminders....☺

I have a group of ex colleagues and we celebrate our 60th and 65th birthdays with a trip...abroad or to the theatre....maybe something special in London.....and then we'll start on our 70ths...zimmers and tenna lady in bulk on order.......☺

For my 60th two close friends organised a day which was spent doing most of the things in Jenny Joseph's poem.....When I am an old woman....followed by punting on the Cam.

I don't like parties.....but enjoy the fun of doing something special on birthdays....x
