Most already know.

Stopping smoking is notoriously difficult. Well, for the vast majority of people it is. No doubt there will be some people who will disagree and let me know how terribly easy they found it...
I agree Jordy.....but what can one do about it that already hasn't been thought of?

LoL, spath........'wait for it'......
Spath is keen on studies...
Studies have shown a small amount of wine or beer a day can actually help you live longer.

/// How could you prove the smoke causes the ailment? ///

Where on Earth did anyone say it did?
Baldric - smoking killed my husband without a shadow of a doubt. He was warned 10 years before he died but his attitude was that he knew better and he would prove them wrong. He didn't and died at 65. I gave it up in 1966 after smoking over 50 a day. With me it was will power and Fox's Glacier Mints!

I tend to stick to just the odd glass of whatever and odd cigarette (literally a beer, wine or gin occasionally and ciggies only ever socially and then just one or two here and there) so I don't really consider myself either a smoker or a drinker ( had one awful over indulgence with alcohol not so long ago and won't be overdoing it again ever, felt horrible). I wouldn't be ever doing either every day but I do sympathise with people who do and find it impossible to stop, and their taxes on the stuff pays for their treatment, so...
what about all the bariatric wards that have now had too be set up to cope with all the morbidly obese people... ban food !
Just read an article in our local paper: "Ninewells (hospital) worker ‘caught puffing’ next to hospital’s ‘no smoking’ sign. Just one of many.
it really annoys me that smokers drop dog ends everywhere ,I am a smoker and always carry a little ashtray with a lid there is no excuse for the littering .
Dave probably died because he smoked heavily most of his life. If the lung cancer hadn't got him indirectly by making it impossible to operate, the emphysema would have got him before long.
The answer my friend, is blowin' in the wind.
Kval - I'm surprised you're now having the 'odd ciggie' it wasnt long ago you were moaning about having to kiss a colleague and it being a real turn off.

You say you will you will never do it every day, but I bet every full blown smoker / drinker has said that.
It's not just hospitals. It seems that some people empty their car ashtrays into the gutter outside our local shop. What's maddening about it is there's a bin.
