Do people really care so much that they will camp out for days? - apparently yes they do.

With royal baby No. 3 due any day now, St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington has set up barriers outside the Lindo Wing, where Kate will give birth.

Fans are already camping out outside the hospital, hoping for a glimpse of Kate and the baby-which many people now think will be a boy.

I despair at peoples stupidity.
they just want to be present at something memorable.
I don't think that would be allowed, Jno.
//they just want to be present at something memorable//
And the birth of a new rich, privileged, indulged, rich kid is memorable? As I said, I despair!
I despair of the arrogance of those who think we should all be the same. Who are they hurting? Lots of activities in which I don't participate, tweeting, watching Eastenders or Star Wars but to each his/her own.
On the other hand it is totally British, and does something to maintain our identity, in the face of Islamist.
Hopkirk, it would be a busy delivery room :-)
If the event makes them happy and they have the time - wonderful.
I wouldn't do that, but good luck to those that do.

Mixed responses as expected. I personally would not camp out, but wish them all the best.
in 100 years, maybe 1000, you'll still be able to find out when and where Baby Cambridge was born. Unlikely that anyone would be able to do that with you or me. It is "memorable" in the same way as people can remember where they were when JFK died (or John Lennon or Michael Jackson or whoever, for you young ones).

That's not the same as saying it's important.

Theland, the Bible says that we should pray for our leaders because they are appointed by God, how does that square in the face of us been lead by 'islamist' leaders then?
spath, the last time this happened, the local authorities were handing out leaflets to the crowd promoting local sights and local businesses (Paddington and the area round the hospital have shot upmarket in the last few years, with Crossrail shortly to open there).
Oh John. The whole royal circus is not something I ascribe to, yet it is so British, and for that reason it needs to continue.
Why Theland? Just because its British?
I read that tents have been banned so let's hope the fine weather continues! Personally, I think anyone who camps out for royal events, show tickets, sales, etc., is potty - but each to his own.
the fine weather is not predicted to continue, so the crowd should probably start chanting "Induce! Induce!"
Nailit, perhaps it needs to carry on simply because it is a British tradition.

There was a thread somewhere lamenting the fall of British traditions. Each one tradition on its own means little to most people but ad does them all up and you have a a culture and society that identifies together.

Take traditions away piecemeal and national culture become eroded and worthless. As we are seeing with the over use of any number of 'foreign' traditions seemingly taking presidence over parts of the country.
Hey, well at least they're not stabbing each other or trashing other people's belongings or doing any of the multitude of anti social ways people indulge in these days ...good luck to them i say !!
