Had appointment with consultant today. Confirmed he has lung cancer and emphysema. The cancer has not spread and it is operable. That is such a great relief. Feel like a huge weight has been lifted.
He is not too bad in himself. He gave up smoking two weeks ago and is managing that really well seeing as he has smoked for 62 years.
One change in him though is he is sleeping an awful lot. After breakfast he will have an hour. Same in the afternoon and again in the evening.
The main problem he has, he is in a lot of pain with very bad swollen legs and feet. But today he has been given diuretics to help with that.
So onwards and upwards, we just have to wait for his appointment.

Some encouraging news then , and hope the diuretics kick in soon and he gets a prompt appointment, take care of each other. x
Onwards and upwards from now, Caran! Get the loins girded and you'll get through. There are a lot of positives in your post. Keep him mobile. :)
Good news about the cancer, I hope they can sort things out quickly for him.
Glad to hear some good news there, Caran.........

I know from MrG's experience that carrying all that extra fluid can be very tiring.....he'd sleep as MrC is doing........should get better when the fluid retention is under control...

All best wishes....Gx

Thanks for all your good wishes. Very much appreciated.
Thinking of you both too. Mr F had part of his lung removed 2 or so years ago, he also smoked for 60 years and stopped. Three anesthetists did not want to work on him, because of various industrial lung conditions. Thankfully one did, and he did very well post operatively.
Best wishes for s speedy op and recovery for Mr Caran.
Have they said when their likely to operate on him, Caran ?.
Ferlew. Great news re you're husband and will be helpful to Caren.

Hopefully you'll be able to think more clearly now Caran. Best wishes for your husband's operation. Keep your chin up...

He has to have a heart scan first but consultant says it will be in weeks so that is good. Only down side is operation will be in Bristol not Gloucester.
My driving is not good now. I have lost confidence and only do local journeys.
Family and friends have been marvellous and said they will drive me about.

Best wishes to you and OH. I know what you mean about driving, I have devised some weird routes which don't involve right turns unless at traffic lights.
Good luck

Glad to hear of your positive news Caran :-). From personal experience, while diuretics, really get rid of fluid build up,they can also cause bad leg and feet cramps if you don't keep up your natural water consumption. Hope all is good x
such a worrying time for you caran. hope all goes well for both of you.
