war between who? If the aid ships are needed why would anyone stop them? is Iran doing something wrong trying to help get aid through? Is gaza a bad place? I've no idea actually.
Rightly or wrongly Israel believes Gaza is being supplied with missiles which Hamas is using to bombard them. They have therefore taken to inspecting the ships heading for Gaza.
The stated aims of Hamas are given in their Charter called 'The Covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement'.

In its opening statement, this quote appears, "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it."

In article seven, “... the Islamic Resistance Movement aspires to the realisation of Allah's promise [the obliteration of the Jews], no matter how long that should take.”

In article thirteen, "There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavours."

There are plenty more unsavoury sentences in this document which you can find here...

I'm not suggesting that Israel is whiter than white in all this – far from it. But when your next door neighbours have a publicly stated policy of wiping you off the face of the earth, you'd do well to keep a close eye on them.
Thanks for posting that Birdie. I hadn't read it before.

//Nothing of the sort is to be found in any other regime. This is an undisputed fact............Initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences, are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement.//

Confirmation that any attempt to find a peaceful solution is futile.
Couldn't this charter be seen as something similar to The Protocols of the Elders of Zion? Both could be pieces of propaganda with little basic in fact.
So what?

Before the peace process the Constitution of Ireland laid claim to the North

For hundreds of years the reigning monarch claimed King of France in their titles.

Constitutions like this are often aspirational

Much of the problem is that Israel is not letting aid through
Rebuilding materials like cement and iron are not being let through

And while were talking about terrorists what do you call a group who assassinate someone using false British passports?

Or blow up a boat and tell the world oh they were wearing wetsuits they were planning an attack?

Is that the standard of evidence we expect from Israel now?
-- answer removed --
If Israel complied with all the UN resolutions it ignores and complied with International law, then no aid would be needed and the Palestinians in Gaza could rebuild their country.

How can a complete ban on concrete and building materials be justified. But then, no other country would deliberately target hospitals and schools (and UN aid centres) for their bombs.
Birdie - I have never seen that link before - and how very interesting... and worrying...
and all in the name of 'religion'...

I fear that the next war our world will suffer will be caused by this particular religion (Islam)... since they seem to want to preach hatred and unnacceptance of any religion other than their own.

I guess we can only sit back and watch to see what happens now with Israel and Gaza
Europe has also offerred to police the blocade

http://euobserver.com/9/30224

"We can check the cargo of ships heading toward Gaza - we can do it, we want to do it, we would gladly do it," said the French Foreign minister and William Hague has backed him

Now why do you suppose the Israeliis wouldn't let us do it?

Perhaps because we might let concrete through
israel does not want to let more aid in , it wants the people of palestine to leave their land.
israel must be the only place that gets bigger each year

http://whatreallyhapp...ES/mapstellstory.html
so it would seem both sides are as bad as each other... maybe Hamas is retaliating in the name of their religion... using force to fight force....

two wrongs not making a right - but weapons, blood and fighting will continue...

i cant see a peaceful end to the situation at all.... thank God I was born here in the UK and not there!
Q. What's black and glows in the dark?

A. Iran if they mess with Israel.
I think sadly McMouse that is out of date

it's now the whole middle east if Israel and Iran aren't kept apart
Gromit states "But then, no other country would deliberately target hospitals and schools (and UN aid centres)" referring to Israel.. and how true.. and as jake the Peg points out - they also assasinate people using fake UK passports.. and then kill people on an aid boat...

You have to question their stance on the matter...

Should we as a nation back off and let them get on with it.. or take sides???

The US always side with Israel - and always have (I think)... but maybe we are reaching the point where to side with Israel blatantly supports militant behaviour!

WHo knows how this can be resolved!!! Dont think its possible...
If Dinnerjacket wants to get his navy involved then he'd better get himself glass bottomed boat for future inspections! Israel don't give a rats ar5e what anyone thinks they'll sink them.
Eddie51,
I referred to The protocols so that it could be likened to this supposed Hamas document. I'm suggesting that both were(are) forgeries designed for propagandas purposes.
Those on board five ships in the flotilla acted peacefully and were escorted into port without any trouble. Only the ship that had planned in advance for violence was met with deadly force.
The amount of aid they were bringing is tiny compared with the 15,000 tons of goods and supplies Israel sends to Gaza EACH WEEK. Supplies to the Palestinian people, not weapons for the tyrannical Hamas that threatens and controls them.
This Iranian involvement is more likely to lead to more conflict, eliciting a strong response from Israel. There's already an international outcry against Israel especially as they are rejecting UN proposals for an international probe into the matter.

At the moment the Security Council are discussing imposing new sanctions on Iran in its responsibility to the developing nuclear energy programme. Could there be a link between Iran's humanitarian effort in breaking the Gaza blockade and its own nuclear developements and forthcoming sanctions?
//// Israel don't give a rats ar5e what anyone thinks they'll sink them./////

I am sure all of us know that.
