We are constantly being told to eat 5 portions of fruit and veg, drink 8 glasses of water and excercise daily. Men should have no more than 21 units of alcohol weekly, and women should not exceed 14 units. Eat 3 portions of oily fish per week.... yada yada yada. To you think we should follow these guidelines religiously, or just listen to what our body is telling us, and maintain a healthy BMI?
I eat too much, drink more than 14 units - so drink too much, don't exercise enough (cos I'm working and sat on my ass all day). My BMI is spot on, my cholesterol is high, my heart is erratic, my breast and bum are too big but seem to be popular so I'm ok with that.
What was the question? Healthy? Could be worse I supose - I'm still here and happy :-)
I don't eat the required portions we are meant to - I eat what I feel like - I do like salads though - I don't over eat and have lost a lot of weight recently but think that's linked to my RA in some way. Have never smoked and don't drink a huge amount.
I read somewhere about not eating red meat more than twice a week. Who's counting? If I fancy a nice fillet steak, I have one !! However, I am fortunate that I like fish, fruit and veg. However, I seriously doubt I have my RDQ of all these things. Plus, I am rather partial to a glass of wine.....
The only healthy thing i did weas to give up smoking. Apart from that, i don't really eat veggies. If i have 5 a month im doing well, let alone per day. I drink water but generally when ive had too much to drink the night before. Exercise, hmmm, not too keen on that either but i do walk everywhere cause i dont drive, however, im learning! lol
All in all though, im pretty healthy i think. Could be sooo much better though. I enjoy life and i wont stop drinking or eating what i enjoy.
