Maybe he sees his friend as a yellow glove puppet?

Any more silly questions?

what is silly about the question?...please enlighten me?
depressing, isn't it... I don't know about racists, exactly. They are like characters in a Billy Bunter story, all unaware that these were popular 80 years ago and dreadfully out of touch with modern Britain. (You can just imagine Bunter calling someone 'sooty' because of the colour of his skin.) And of course they'll claim that the people don't mind it at all, as if they'd go telling the Prince of Wales he's an offensive idiot.

They aren't the only ones:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/jan/13/sol-c ampbell-eleven-charged-racist-abuse

but as our future leaders, they don't exactly set football crowds a good example.
of course they are - always have been & more than likely always will be.

they don't realise us lesser normal mortals sometimes take offence. they can't help it - it's ingrained. Bless them.
to be honest i dont really care

thank you jno, that is the point of my question.the future king of england should not be calling people derogotary names,if one of my employees called 1 of my staff a nickname that i found offensive i would haul him/her over the coals in no uncertain terms.the point is that the royal family are stuck in a time warp.......
It's silly because what I and my friends call each other is between us, and none of your, or anyone else's business.
Nor me zzxxee
Perhaps his friend likes being called Sooty. This really is getting silly now. What else can they rake up. I am no great royal lover, but give them a break for goodness sake.
Yes but you're not meant to be a role model to the country and you're not in line to have a huge influency in the countries affairs!
At least 'Sooty' doesn't get starred out!!

Perhaps Sooty calls Charles Big Ears!
"Yes but you're not meant to be a role model to the country and you're not in line to have a huge influency in the countries affairs!"

And you know that for a fact do you?

In that case you do not know who I am.

that would be nice, Lottie... but in real life, I imagine he wouldn't dare, and that's the problem... these nicknames are one-way things.
Sorry, I disagree JNO, I expect the Royals have friends like everyone else that they can relax with and be natural with.

The Royals are quite a human lot these days - they are allowed to be. The days are gone when people were in awe of them of guarded their words.

Perhaps not with the Queen though...............................
Did you see the Comedy Show that was put on for Prince Charles at the Wimbledon Theatre. Noone was guarded at all about what they said about or called Prince Charles - and he roared with laughter the whole way through.

all bow to prince or princess rollo....................................
OK how many of you on here have coloured friends that you call "Sooty" or "P@kki" or some other racial epithet?

Anyone?
that's sort of what I mean, Lottie... I'm sure they relax with their friends. But do their friends truly relax with them? I gather Princess Margaret used to throw almighty snits if anyone - even 'friends' - dared leave a party before she did. I've no idea if Charles is quite that pompous, but I'm sure he's equally likely to cut you off his guest list if you cross him in any way.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
No.

My auntie had a cat called Sooty though?

I don't think it is up to us what friends call each other in a private situation, whether they be royal or not.

If Prince Charles referred to his friend as Sooty on a public occasion then that might be quite different.
