teacher with veil

what is your view on the teacher who refuse to take off her veil? personally i could not and would not speak to someone who i could not see. i have great respect for teachers but i do not expect my children to be taught by someone who hides her face from them.

I'm also sick to death of all the pandering to the 'minority' in this contry (England)!
There are so many elements to this particular story - what if she was teaching 'special needs' children sign language & needed to show facial expressions too? Wouldn't be much help there would she, or would any other Muslim woman insisting on covering their faces!

I think there should be a new newspaper set up called The Muslim Hater, which could concentrate on publishing as many negative stories about Muslims as it wished, leaving real news for the other papers and television stations.
Have any of you noticed a pattern to this?
Okay, here we go - there is a substantial number of Muslims living in the UK.
Agree?
The vast majority of them are as boring as we non-Muslims are (they buy bread, they watch Eastenders, they worry about hikes in gas prices).
Agree?
Now...why do you think it is that the only stories you ever read are negative ones?
1. The Muslim policeman who wanted to be reassigned.
2. The Muslim teacher who refuses to remove her veil
3. The Muslim taxi driver who refused to take a guide dog.
Beginning to see a pattern yet?
Please for goodness sake, don't blindly follow the news unquestioningly. If I were Muslim, I'd be feeling pretty ticked off with it.
To put it into perspective - this ain't the first time this has happened.
West Indians, Pakistanis and Jews have also come in for this particular kind of media attention over the past 50 years.
It's inexcusible, unwarranted and in the end, incredibly unfair.

By the way, my view on the teacher "who refuses to remove her veil"? I heard that she was meeting with the school governers to discuss a compromise, furthermore, and I might be wrong, I thought the report was that she would remove her veil in front of kids, but not other teachers and parents.
If anyone has a link to the story, I'd appreciate it being posted, just so I can check my facts.

I have taught GCSE English to Muslim women wearing veils and had no problems understanding them at all. On the contrary, they had excellent diction and spoke, perhaps, better English than some of their peers.
However, primary education includes the teaching of language and communication skills and for that, children need to see not only mouth shapes, but facial expressions in their entirety. These become more important when a child has hearing difficulties or for whom the 'teaching' language is not his or her first language.
I remember, in the 1970s, we had one or two Muslim girls at our very traditional grammar school. The only concession they received was to be able to wear trousers (in school navy) under their uniform skirt - not instead of. In fact, hardly any Muslim women in our city in those days went around in full veil and robes, as I recall.

Now now Chinadoll we have to address the very real possibility that perverts might dress up as this women to get close to our kids.
Of course they'd have to kidnap her first otherwise people might get suspicious of 2 women in veils walking around the school! - which would lead to a Scooby Doo style investigation where they'd have to chase them both into an abandoned fairground!

Might I also suggest that the bogey man could also take advantage of this woman and dress up... not to mention the closet monster, the man in the moon and the park keeper/museum curator that is always the bad guy in Scooby Doo. In order to reduce the risk I will start stocking up on my scooby snacks.

I'm with sp1814 on this - I think the media are making far more of this issue than needs be, and adding to the general trend for encouraing people to see all Muslims as some kind of alien species to be viewed with suspicon and fear.
Yes, this lady who is a convert, is making a frankly inappropriate stance given her profession, and cultural and religious requirements. but the media hysteria is utterly out of context to the incident, and simply adds to the NF attitudes being whipped up on a daily basis.
There is no Muslim 'community' any more than there is a Jewish, or Sikh, or even Christian 'communilty' - the majority of all faiths and creeds live together quite happily. there are extremeists, Opus Dei being an example, and the media don't seem to be screaming about the massive irony of Ruth Kelly - believed to be a supporter - lecturing other faiths on integrtation.
