England and it's freedom of speech

I am getting so sick of those foreigners who move here and subsequently have British born families who then complain that this Country does not honour their religion or that we insult them by our own festivals.

Like:- no Christmas cards as it offends/ no Christmas lights as it offends/ no Christmas holidays as it is not their recognised holiday.......blah, blah, blah.

I do not understand many religions but I honour anyone whose religion is different to my own. But I will be damned to see the British having to change our laws and ways to suit the fanatics who think that we must all be, say, worship and behave as to solely their customs.

These people are over here curtesy of us and they should accept our nationality and laws and customs and live with them as I do theirs.

What would happen if many of us emigrated to their Country and demanded that they did not worship or have their religious holidays at it offended the Church of England or the Catholics? We'd all be shipped back to the UK on the first plane!
It's high time that there was a law made to say all foreigners here accepted our Country for what it is and stands for, and that they simply have to fit in with us - after all, we are paying their wages, NHS, housing, pensions, benefits etc., and when Parliament decrees all British women should wear veils (so not to offend those we have let stay in this country) I will emigrate.

Getting so sick of foreign nationals demands and being told what to do,say, worship and why are these people allowed to get away with it here without being booted back to their own Country where their voices would probably carry no weight?

Flubber...is your surname 'Ghasted'?

But seriously...who told you that you couldn't send Christmas cards?

Which British laws are being changed to 'suit the fanatics'?

Errmmm...like Australia, America and South Africa???

You're very angry, but you're not focussing. Breath deeply, and ask a question which is related to a specific news story, otherwise you'll find this just becomes a rambling, non-conclusive thread.

p.s. I have absolutely no idea how to spell 'focussing'. If it's wrong, I apologise and hang my head
You mention the way in which 'those foriegners' ban 'us' (both of which are reduced to utterly unrealistic homogenous groups in any discussion such as this) from 'Christmas cards [...] lights [...] holidays'.

Such allegations have regularly been been made against pesky furriners on the AB. In the majority cases these allegations turn out to be untrue upon further investigation and where they do turn out to be true they are invariably down to some twonk at the local council being overly bureaucratic.

In virtually every single example that has ever, ever, ever been posted on here, when anyone has actually bothered to speak to representatives from the local ethnic minority communities they invariably turn around and say it's ridiculous and they're completely against any such behaviour.

Sorry if them pesky facts get in the way of your rant though. It's always good to have a ill-considered diatribe against some of the weakest sections of society and I'm sure the News section could easily manage a few more - some of the questions are still about actual news.

Oh I apologise for my comments......I am not one of the "in crowd" whose comments are allowed and acceptible by the few who seem to run this forum.
Flubber, Flubber, Flubber...mate - you're shooting yourself in the foot over and over again with this.

The "in crowd whose commented are allowed and acceptible"?

Your post doesn't include anything which is overtly racist, although you show a degree of belligerence in your tone.

Don't be afraid to speak you mind, but likewise, you should be prepared to hear an alternative point of view, especially when it's being put in a considered and intelligent
manner - like Waldo's post.

To be fair, SP, I may have been a little sarky in the last para...

First time I've ever been described in the 'in crowd' though. Do I get a badge?
I've re-read your last paragraph and whilst I agree, it is a little</> sarky, I would also argue that flubber wasn't referring to you being part of the in-crowd...but me.

Back to flubber -

What would happen if many of us emigrated to their Country and demanded that they did not worship or have their religious holidays at it offended the Church of England or the Catholics?

Where/when did this happen. Serious question...what are you referring to?
Sorry - my last post was badly worded.

What I meant to say is 'when did Muslim' ever do that?

When did British Muslims prevent British Christians from celebrating their religion, or worshipping?

It would be excellent if you could post some examples here.

Also, you wrote:

"no Christmas holidays as it is not their recognised holiday"

Yer kidding me right???

...because I will fight any man who stands between me and my annual four day "Booze-Prezzie-Telly' fest.
boring...
How do you like to spend your Sundays, flubber?
flubber you obviously actually believe that christmas etc is under threat and that strange demands are being made by all immigrants regarding tradional British ways of life. Simply, that's not true. No-one is trying to ban Christmas, veils will NEVER be compulsaryetc etc etc, it's all just an alarmist load of old cobblers dreamed up by the right wing press to terrify people into buying their sordid, ill informed little rags. It's not true and it's not happening.
I live in Worcestershire at the moment but have a place in London where we lived for ages and still use when we are in town, and nothing ahs effectivel;y changed in the last 10 years. Don't let them panic you. Everything is fine.
Where will you emigrate to, Flubber?

1930's Germany?
flubber. Please, please please stop reading the right-wing tabloids. They are only whipping up resentment & hatred. I've got several muslim families living on my road, & they couldn't be better neighbours. Please remember, 99.9% of muslims are fine, they are not all fundamentalists.

I think I have to admit defeat and simply leave this forum. I love the humour and often learn a lot by reading all posts here but it is very obvious that there is a clannish little circle of names who feel that they can run this place and ridicule anyone whose name does not fit in with the elite clan.

You are all very nice people but the few decide who can post and whose posts are acceptible. I never wanted to fit in with the elite but I simply wanted to post views/questions as others do and I have seen far too often how the few ridicule innocent posts and posters. I hope the new Editor sets rules that you all have to follow but please remember that this website is for the benefit of all and you clique sect of members do not run it (although you like to feel that you do) This website is here for us all to ask questions and voice opinions. It is not up to the few to critisise some posters or their questions simply because our name is not one of the select group.

Reply by all means but I will not return to view your comments - some of you only post to insult and there will come a time that the new Ed will ban you - when that happens AB might get back to what it is supposed to be.
Flubber.. I am with you 100%.. These people are nice.. but they are foolish.. I guess they will find out the truth when the name of this country is changed to Englistan.. Why why why the F*** do we pamper them so much? Its our country damn it!! Abide by our rules or get the hell outta here. Trust me, my vote goes to the BNP.
Just this morning I was bundled into a car, forced into a niqab, and made to convert to Islam at swordpoint by terrorist foreigners, who were living in a 10 bedroom council palace for free, whilst starving British kids crawled around in the gutter. When I complained to the police they said that there was nothing that could be done as they didn't want to offend anyone, and banged me up in prison for causing a bit of a fuss. Luckily for me the government has turned my prison into a holiday camp, and whilst we aren't allowed Christmas or christian names, I get all my meals personally cooked by Jamie Oliver and am studying for a degree in advanced chemical slaughter at the taxpayers expense.
Supernick, that's awful ! Why ever did we let things get so out of hand? well there goes 2009, let's just keep goin' with our heads down and hope 2010 gets a bit better for us all. Merry Xmas.
The notion that there is a clique on here who get to decide who posts what is simply laughable, and provably not true by er... just having a look at a few threads.

If you post obviously contentious posts, phrased in argumentative language from *whatever perspective*, you should expect people to challenge those views, and possibly with the same vitrol you yourself used. There are posters from all sides of the political spectrum and all 'sides' have thrown brickbats at the others in the course of discussions.

There is no elite.

Now stop throwing your toys out of the pram just because a few people had the temerity to point out you were talking cack.
As has already been said, the 'banning Christmas' brigade are essentially local councils...not that I believe it gets as extreme as that, but in most if not all cases the people instigating this stupidity are not Muslim. Having worked with Muslims I KNOW this to be true...I have never met a Muslim who wishes to ban Christmas as yet.

What you have to remember is that freedom of speech works both ways. If we all truly believed in this right to speak how we wish then we have no right to get into a funk about the 'hate preachers'.

I think this is probably the last Muslim/immigrant/terrorist thread I shall post on because to be honest I am sick of it.
The whole elite thing is patently unfair, because there are plenty of posters who use the News section who have diametrically opposing views to me and the left-leaning posters.

I could, but won't name a few off the top of my head.

I think the problem with this particular thread is that all the lefties saw it at about the same time and all posted pretty robust responses.

Nothing more sinister than that.
flubber - you make a lot of sweeping generalisations which are anti-foreigner then when you are asked for the evidence to back them up (which of course doesn't exist) you go into a sulk. If you want a debate, fine, but produce the evidence. Don' have a go at people for simple asking you for evidence to support your assertions.
