teacher with veil

what is your view on the teacher who refuse to take off her veil? personally i could not and would not speak to someone who i could not see. i have great respect for teachers but i do not expect my children to be taught by someone who hides her face from them.

thing is young kids need to see facial expressions to know what we are thinking, is teacher cross, upset, pl;eased or what, how do they have a real teacher pupil relationship if teacher hides her face. do youi know what i'm getting at?
plus a smile from teacher in the morning puts the kids at aease and they know where they stand, so yes if she refuses to teach without a veil, she should be sacked.

The issue is not the veil and never was. The whole thing is about integration, but it's too late anyway.
Jack Straw, David Blunkett, David Cameron, Ruth Kelly, all appear to be speaking with one voice, but it is still too late.
If any one (current) minority might not integrate, it will outstandingly be Islam. And why ? - because it is *right* where everything else is wrong - so why integrate ? Jesus to Islam was a prophet, but not the Son of God. This is not a matter of discussion or tolerance for Islam. We might try to integrate with Islam, but there'll be precious little effort coming back. Too late, too late.

I absolutely refute that it's 'too late'.
You know why?
Because I used to live near Arsenal football ground and on a Saturday, before a match, I would drive by the Highbury Barn and see black guys chatting with white guys and Asian guys and (what I took to be) Turkish or Greek guys (and women from those ethnic group) and it made me very happy.
I absolutely refuse to believe that we as intelligent grown ups are going to be fooled into thinking of Muslims as a de facto enemy.
I mean, let's get this into perspective for a second...you're having a go a women for wearing a veil.

Hindus, Sikhs, any others, they mix in. They look different, so what, I love it.
But Islam, uniquely, will not integrate because it sees no need to, and indeed regards itself as superior to anything else, by direct communication from God. Assume 'we' banned the veil - what would happen ? Maybe the veiled women would just be kept at home.
Britain is inexorably on a road to huge change, I can't say I like it, but it's inevitable. Too late, 50 years too late.

Nope...neither have I. And I'm not having a go at anyone from any racial/religious minority, because they gain strength, support and identity from their communities.
When a Muslim family can move into the middle of a small town in Hertfordshire and be welcomed in exactly the same way as a white family, then we can grin and give ourselves a pat on the back.
When a gay couple can have a kiss at a bus stop in Wilshire without worrying about being beaten up on the way home, then we can feel smug about how far we've come.
And when a mixed race couple can walk into a pub in Toxteth, holding hands, order from the bar, and feel comfortable, then we can be pretty sure that we've come a long way.
But we're not there yet (although we've done extremely well compared to other countries in Europe).
People group together for safety and comfort.
We all seek shelter in what we know.

Many people here seem to be missing the fact that she has actually been suspended, no-one is pandering to her and even her (Muslim) MP thinks the school is being reasonable. This isn't about anything other than the behaviour of an individual. It should not be used as part of the appalling anti-muslim sentiment sweeping the country (and this website).

I do, I'm good friends with a Sikh, been very close friends with Hindus and Muslims and I'm currently in contact with a Jewish chap in Israel who's coming to live in London later this year. I'm even married to a ginger.
I suppose it depends where you come from, I was born and lived in London for 28 of my 33 years, and living out in the stix for a few years made me realise how different it was in other parts of the country with regards to racial mix.

I still think that using the argument that 'there might be a kiddy fiddler under there' is beyond funny.

It just seems like bullying now. These women have done nothing wrong. They are just ordinary members of the community and we as a nation (98% according to a poll in one of the nationals) have decided that something that is of no harm to us is unacceptable.
I tell you, it's the thin edge of the wedge - say if 'we' got our way, what next? What if the general public decided that headscarves were unnacceptable because they are 'an obvious sign of separateness'?
Okay, what if every Muslim dressed in a pin-striped suit and wore a bowler hat, would that be okay?

bikers are told, told not asked to remove their helmets when going into a supermarkets, why not veils, i tell you why cos as soon as these people are tol;d to act like us thay shout and scream that were rasist, and we end up in court, were getting too scared to challenge them, so they can do what they please.
the fact is she isn't going to get her job back from that education department even if they lose.I saw that reported today.and rightly so.there are lots of stories in the newspapers that some people might say are 'portraying muslims in the worst light'.But if the majority of muslims had spoken out against recent atrocities instead of remaining smugly silent (and actually beleiving that some of the pc brigade pen-pushers that exist are anything other than a bit naieve and ignorant regarding the patience of tolerant Britons and dont represent our overall views),well they wouldn't be seeing this backlash today.The newspapers are only reporting what most people think, not 'putting thoughts into our heads' despite what some few insist.what an insult.
sp1814 a biker who did not remove his helmet in a supermarkt, bank or any other public place could rob/steal kill someone and could not be identified, so the person behind the veil could do terrible things and get away with it, see what i mean, just as an afterthought how would a young child recognise its own mother in a room full of masked women?
These women are now being picked on and bullied by the rest of society for no good reason.

Some Muslims have beards...what's to say that they haven't secreted small razor blades in there.
It is by far and away the most abhorrent swing in public mood that I've ever witnessed...apart from in the late 90s when the Spice Girls used to get to number one...
...that was the worst time in this country, and we're not farf off it again.
